In a mad moment on a sleepless night (at around 3.00 a.m.), I ordered these.
The lady who makes them had a going-out-of-business sale, and they arrived in the mail a few days ago.
They were for pierced ears (my ears aren't), but I remembered I had converters in a box somewhere, along with a pair of small needle-nosed pliers. I found them and got to work, getting rid of the wires and attaching the converters. They are prettier than the photo shows, but it will give you an idea and this old girl still loves her dangly earrings, says I smiling.
We didn't get as much snow as we were expecting, but hubs found it impossible to clear what we did have off the driveway. There is a thick sheet of ice on top. No melting as it's going to remain bitter for several days, and supposedly more snow next Saturday. We have a steep driveway that can be treacherous -we have a history. Fortunately, we stocked up beforehand.
The sun is shining outside at least, and Sophie Squirrel is doing okay, though she's a wee bit cold!
The Kissing Bunnies, as you well know, have their love to keep them warm.
I couldn't help but put in a word of the day in the photo above. Son and daughter-in-law sent these.
My grateful thanks to the person who plowed our road early this morning, and for that matter to all who go out in this weather to take care of us and keep us safe. Bless your hearts, you deserve our never-ending gratitude. When we eventually can dig our way down to the road, we'll be ready to get out of here.
What did we do on our snow-bound day? We read, I put this post together and we made our dinner, Creamy Beef with Butterfly Pasta. It was very good and we added a veggie salad on the side. I will share it next Monday.
Take good care of yourselves out there and I hope all is well where you are. Stay safe and warm.
For our international friends, to translate the words on the 5th photo down.
Chionophile.
A person who loves, enjoys or thrives in the snow and cold weather is called a chionophile. From Greek, this term refers to someone who finds joy and peace during winter, particularly when the landscape is covered in snow.
Pronunciation: kye-ON-uh-file.
Good thing you were well prepared! The earrings are AWESOME!! I do not have pierced ears either. We must be the only two people left in the world that do not have pierced ears. I did not know you can buy converters! I shall look on Amazon.
ReplyDeleteYes, very much so :) so very nice that you liked these earrings and how about that, us with non-pierced ears? It is really easy to convert them. I bought what I needed on Amazon. The only thing I had to be careful about was when I had to slowly open the metal rings at the top. The metal was quite pliable, I didn’t want to snap them and I needed my strong reading glasses. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a YouTube to show you how it is done. I will have to check that out.
DeleteThose earrings are fabulous. So unique. I didn't notice the owl face in the first picture.
ReplyDeleteSorry about all the snow. Better to stay inside safe and warm until the driveway can get cleared.
Thanks Ann, I loved those owl faces :) I agree, best to be safe than sorry.
DeleteWhat brilliant, beautiful earrings, and you even made them yourself so you can wear them without pierced ears!
ReplyDeleteHow cute the squirrel and the lovable bunnies! The food looks good too, delicious!
You have a lot of snow, all the photos are fantastic!
We went shopping, climbing over snowdrifts to get to the other side! They're supposed to be very windy from this afternoon and continue for the next few days, and it's cold.
I'm glad nothing happened to us.
I wish you a peaceful day! Hugs Elke
Greetings Elke :) thank you, I am always looking at earrings but most that I like are for pierced ears. That’s great that you could climb over the snow drifts when you go out. I am happy you were okay. Stay safe and warm and I wish you a very peaceful day also. Hugs, Denise
DeleteAccording to Sleepwatch, I scored 1 hour and 50 minutes sleep last night. I did not order any merch, but I did listen to a long pod about the history of cats. There is a site in Egypt where they found 30000 cats ‘buried’. They had all been embalmed if you please. Apparently all of our cats are from there and are African in origin. They spread through the Mediterranean by boats where they were wanted to deal with the ubiquitous rodents. Through much of history, that was their purpose. They got along with humans and vice versa but were not for the most part pets like they are today.
ReplyDeleteSo that was my night or part of it. 🤓
Well, I am very glad you shared that with me. How fascinating about the history of cats! Thanks for sharing that and loved that you did share it. Isn’t it amazing what we come across in the wee hours of the morning? :) Hope you got a good night’s sleep last night. I will probably be taking a nap sometime today.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe snow was hard to shovel with a layer of ice on top. Your earrings are so cute, love the owl. Stay warm and safe! Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.
Hello Eileen and thank you :) yes, very hard with that thick ice. Glad you liked my earrings. You take care too and I wish you the same.
DeleteThese days it’s just as likely to be guys wearing dangly earrings!
ReplyDeleteNow that gave me a chuckle but very true :)
DeleteOh Denise...here I am whining about our miniscule amount of ice/snow! Look at you! Uggggg...Stay warm!!!
ReplyDeletehugs
Donna
Thank you for the caring comments Donna, very much appreciated :) Hugs, Denise
DeleteYum on the noodles and I love that these made you smile. They are very, very pretty and also fun! Wishing you a good rest of the week. Burrr.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivy, I'm still smiling when I look at that little owl :) I hope your rest of the week is a good one too.
DeleteThe rest of my week was pretty good actually. Yes. And we kicked off the weekend with packed lunch, Tim getting home early and off to Barnes. How was the rest of your week?
DeleteThat's great, ours was quieter but nice too. It is going to get down to 5 degrees Fahrenheit (-15 Celsius) tonight and going up to 25 F (-4 Celsius) tomorrow. Pretty frigid weather so won't be going far again :) We are under a weather advisory until 11.00 a.m. tomorrow, maybe a few snow flurries but that's not a given. Listen to me? I sound like a weather forecast, but I do find the weather interesting, lol, I get more interested in it as I get older, haha)
DeleteThe earrings are unique. I do not wear earrings, pierced or otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, it's been a long time since I wore any earrings :)
DeleteThe earrings are quite pretty. I have something similar, but with cats :-) Just having them because so cute, never wear them though..
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie :) and your earrings with the cats sounds very nice.
DeleteChionophile, that is me to the T. I'm glad you got plowed out but that ice is treacherous so be careful.
ReplyDeleteI used to wear earrings all of the time and have a nice collection of them. When I worked in Security for 10 yrs, we couldn't wear jewelry, so I got out of the habit.
Maybe I need some new ones to get back into things!
Stay warm!
I was thinking about you when I found the word Val. In my heart I love the snow and all that it brings - not the bad stuff obviously - but my body is telling me to not chance going out there. I have to get around either with a stick on good days, or with a walker on bad days. Not moaning, it is what it is.
DeleteOh those earrings are amazing. I didn't notice the owl until you showed the close up. And thanks for the new word. I am not a chionophile but I like about a month of it.
ReplyDeleteHappy you liked them Erika and you are very welcome for the new word :)
DeleteThat layer of ice is brutal. Best to avoid for sure! Fun earrings. Keep safe and warm!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree Ellen and thank you. You do the same :)
DeleteI do love the earrings...and that you were able to convert to clip ons.
ReplyDeleteWe have a rather steep (probably not as steep as yours) driveway too. Our house faces north sidewalk and front steps are always in the shade. Very thankful for animal safe ice melt. If we can get those two places snow/ice free we can walk in grass down to mail box
Hugs cecilia
Thank you Cecilia :) Thanks for reminding us of the animal safe ice melt too. So important to buy. Good luck in clearing your pathway down to the mailbox. Hugs, Denise
DeleteThose are really pretty. I'm glad you showed the close-up. I didn't realize they were owls. Even better! Everything looks delicious. It's a good time to stay inside!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie, I appreciate that. Yes it is definitely a good time to stay inside :)
DeletePretty earrings! Yummy food. And beware that ice it is the most dangerous thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine and very aware. I appreciate the concern. It is always good to get an extra reminder :)
DeleteI wear dangle earrings most of the time but not that long. They are cute though.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the ice. We didn't get any just lots and lots of snow.
Thanks Marcia :) hubby went out there again and just couldn't get anywhere. Mother Nature is just going to have to take care of it :)
DeleteThe earrings are so pretty. I like dangly earrings, too.
ReplyDeleteToo much snow and ice for you - I'm glad you're well stocked up.
That's great Janice and thank you very much :)
DeleteThat made me smile... those late-night decisions sometimes turn out surprisingly well. The earrings sound lovely. Dangly earrings have a joy of their own, at any age.
ReplyDeleteThat driveway sounds genuinely tricky, especially with ice underneath... I’m glad you were able to prepare and stay put. And yes, so much gratitude for the people who head out early in weather like that to keep others safe.
Reading, cooking, sharing a good meal — that sounds like a very good way to spend a snow-bound day. And I learned a new word today too… I may not be a full chionophile, but I can certainly appreciate snow from a warm, safe place. Stay warm and take good care.

Thank you Aritha, I am glad this gave you a smile and yes, I am thankful this one turned out well. I agree with you about dangly earrings :))) Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I appreciated it very much. I will be visiting you tomorrow now as I am just about to go to bed. My eyes keep closing! Perhaps a good night's sleep tonight? We can live in hope. You stay warm and take good care also.
DeleteI like your new earrings ... enjoy wearing them.
ReplyDeleteBrr Sophie Squirrel and the Kissing Bunnies look chilly ... but very cute :)
Pleased to read you are well stocked up, stay safe and warm.
All the best Jan
Lovely and thank you so much Jan, all is well and in a few days I think we will be using the phone to place an order for replenishing supplies. All the best to you too, Denise
DeleteWhat you've had is out of the ordinary. You're not prepared for it with clothing, equipment and skills. Keep safe and warm.
ReplyDeleteYour words are good sense Red, thank you very much. I hope you and the Micro Manager keep warm and safe also :)
DeleteThe earings are pretty. Wow that is a lot of snow and it must be awful to be locked inside. But with a good book and heating it must be cosy. While we are sweltering in 30+ Celsius degrees. Parts of the country especially Victoria are suffering bushfires. Many homes, farms and stock have been lost. In Northern Queensland farmers have suffered stock loss from floods. The whole country has experienced heatwaves with very high temperatures in Victoria and South Australia reaching the high 40'sC°.Seeing your son's photos cooled me off. Good luck with your driveway.
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane, and very true. So very sorry to hear about all those fires and floods. That would be terrifying. I'm glad our son and daughter-in-law's photos cooled you off :) I'm going to have to look at some photos from more sunnier climes. Maybe they will have the reverse effect on me. Thanks again, Gregg tried the driveway again and it is even harder. C'est la Vie, we are here for the duration :)
DeletePasta looks good. Nice earrings, love the owl :-D I have never had my ears pierced. I don't wear jewellery often but like animal stuff. Mainly necklaces or rings. Not a fan of bracelets or bangles or watches. I have this necklace and it's a quirky design, I bought it because it looks like a cat tail! :-D
ReplyDeleteThanks Ananka, I appreciate that. I'm always drawn to the animal jewelry too but haven't bought anything in a long time. This was the first time in years. I don't wear bracelets, bangles or watches either. I would love to see your necklace sometime :)
DeleteVery pretty earrings. I like the owl design.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you with all that snow. It is so much worse as well when it ices over and makes travelling so much harder. Take care dear friend x
Thank you too dear friend :) and appreciate the sweet words.
