Hello friends and…

(Good Morning)
I hope you started the day off with a nice breakfast. This little guy wants to know...
(What are you doing today?)
Right now, we don't have any plans, so we are going to have a quiet one, maybe start off with a little exercise...or singing.
(Start the day with a song in your heart and a giggle in your wiggle.)
Don't forget that giggle and wiggle. Those are very important steps to start the day. Go on, look in the mirror and go do it. You'll be giggling all the way through your first cup of tea, or coffee. Most importantly we are...
even though we have had quite a rainy day today (9-16-25).
We needed a little extra liquid sunshine.
Yesterday we went to the garden center and bought mums for the pots on the back deck. It's very nice to see a little color out there. I wanted to buy them early as last year it was too late in the season, and we didn't have them for very long.
The neighborhood was getting brown grass on all the front lawns. This is just what was needed. My toxic thumb killed off my other plants. Maybe they were annuals. Yes, let's just say they were annuals.
Are you a dog lover?
(Dog lovers are called Cynophiles) or dogophiles!
I found this interesting but check with your vet first. Click on to enlarge if you have trouble reading.
Top part is “yes”, next is “with moderation”, next “not recommended” and lastly “no!” Pictures are self-explanatory.
Of course, you could be an "ailurophile?"
(Ailurophile (n.) - a cat lover)
He's a smart one, he doesn't know what the word is but he's looking it up and he is checking these lists.
Again, check with your vet first.
Do you like cats and dogs? We had both when I was young.
A word for someone who loves all animals is a zoophilist or philozoist. I'll just go with 'animal lover', it has the same meaning and people don't look at you like you've gone a bit doolally when you say, say "I'm a zoophilist!" or a philozoist.
Here are a couple of more words: "Biophile", a person who loves nature and living organisms in general. Or "Naturalist", a person who studies and loves the natural world.
Anyhow, here's to all the zoophilists or philozoists in the world, and to everyone else who keeps their humanity.
I lift my glass to each one of you.
And while we're at it, let’s teach our children or grandchildren to enjoy nature, to love, keep and protect the natural world around them, and respect all the people who respect them. One thing leads to another and...
you've got kind, thoughtful kids out there. A few with slightly slipped halos is okay too, and as long as they don't get too carried away. I've met a few scallywags in my time who have turned into decent and good human beings, and I love them dearly.
(My lovely wildflower.)
We also need to let them know the older gang love nature and can still dance in the rain…
(Enjoy the little things.)
for…
(When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world - John Muir.)
But...what's most important is to remember...
(Kindness can change the world, and so can your voice for that matter.)
(Scatter kindness.)
And remember...people can be kind and fun too.
(I like people who are kind but carry a bit of sass in their back pocket.)
Time for my dream cottage. What I like about it is that it's small, with tiny windows and a thatched roof. It has roses and other plants growing around it, not necessarily highly manicured and that's okay. The wildflowers take care of themselves and need not worry about the toxic thumb. It also comes with my own pet sheep, who will keep the grass nice and short. I wonder if there are chickens out back? (It would be nice to have a never-ending supply of poached or soft-boiled eggs.) And look where we are, we can go through the gate, down the path to the ocean and walk along the beach.

It has a nice, cozy dining room.
A lovely corner to catch up on mail, if you like stepping back in time. I love those old typewriters.
The bedroom with my own dried herbs hanging from the light fixture, giving off a lovely scent.
Then I would come down and drink my first cup of tea, or coffee, on the porch out back and watch the sun rise.
In my little dream of a garden, I would walk through this gate. I love those old rusty hinges along with the pretty flowers and birds, don't you?
Time for the food. How about a loaf of quick bread?
And this for dessert. This is going to be a high carb day, but remember, this is only in my dreams. All bets are off when it's a special treat day.
I make a pie crust on the rare occasion - it’s been a long time - I am curious about adding the cornstarch. Has anyone ever done this?
And oh, this sounds so good.
Or this
These when you might have a tickle in your throat. I haven’t tried any of the following, but the first one sounds very soothing and healthy even without a cold and I will make the others sometime. And don’t forget to check with your doctor first.
If I don’t write everything out for translation and our international friends are curious, let me know and I will write them out in full in your comment. You can check back the next day.
Here's a good place to start winding this down.
(You don’t have to be positive all the time.
It’s totally fine to feel sad, frustrated, scared and even fearful. Having feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It makes you human.)
(“What’s your best discovery?” asked the mole.
“That I am enough as I am.” said the boy.)
Thanks for visiting!
and remember…
What do you have to remember?
See you tomorrow!
(Thank you Pinterest for today’s inspiration.)
Love the cottage and the gorgeous gate! An English cottage would be just divine. Sheep for sure, and maybe a couple goats as well. We are both animal lovers, but particularly fond of cats, of which we have had many, The cheese bread looks so good! I think I will make it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny, adding goats to our fur family is a great idea along with the cats, dog, chickens and sheep. There’s always room for more :) Let me know what you think of the cheese bread. I have my eye on making that too.
DeleteYou do amazing posts. love all the positivity and happy pics.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly Diane, that’s my aim in life, to bring everyone a few smiles :)
DeleteI love having a day without plans or appointments. It offers breathing room and the opportunity to just be. Your dream cottage is great! I would like to live there too : )
ReplyDeleteGreetings Nicole, beautifully worded :) so glad you like my dream cottage :)
DeleteLove the little house, the interior is wonderful to see. Thanks Denise and we will sing or hum a tune as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret, so glad you enjoyed. Lovely to know you sing and hum a tune :)
DeleteIt's so nice that you got your mums for the deck; it's amazing how much a little color can change the feel of a space as we head into fall. The dream cottage you described sounds absolutely perfect. The little windows, the rusty gate, and especially the pet sheep. I also really appreciate the quote at the end about how it's okay to not be positive all the time. It's a good reminder that it's human to have a range of feelings. Thanks for sharing all these little bits of happiness and wisdom.

Thank you Melody, very true :) and you are very welcome. I am happy you enjoyed my post.
DeleteThis post is full of pure job. I smiled from the beginning and I want to wiggle and giggle all day long.
ReplyDeleteOh that’s wonderful Ann. Thank you so much, let the wiggling and giggling begin :)
DeleteI thought you were stopping at cynophile and then I could tell you about ailurophiles, but you were just getting started. It’s not gone 6, and I have finished my first coffee. It was cold last night, but I am going to plug the heater in in the bathroom to warm it up for a needed shower after I did some nighttime sweating — under my warm blanket in the cold for goodnesss sake.
ReplyDeleteThat’s why I call my blog rambles. Once I start I just keep going :) it is that time of year already. It was a tad chilly here last night. It will soon be time to put the extra blankets on the bed.
DeleteYou may remember Payton, my daughter’s dog. His daily treat is a couple of blueberries each day.
ReplyDeleteThat’s lovely David and Payton is a very cute dog.
DeleteHello Denise,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post and all the cute images. It is fun to wiggle and giggle.
You are doing a good job at spreading kindness and joy!
Take care, have a great day and happy weekend!
Thank you Eileen, I am doing my best :) I wish you the same.
DeleteLovely post, Denise. I'm seeing a lot of positivity in blogland recently - that's encouraging.
ReplyDeleteThank you Janice, people are really needing positivity right now :) and yes, it is very encouraging.
DeleteWe need rain in western PA. I believe it has been 12 days since it rained.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get it soon Linda :)
DeletePiękne obrazki i zabawny tekst. Koty są napiękniejsze😼 Miłego weekendu😊
ReplyDeleteDziękuję bardzo! Tosia jest przesłodką kotką i wiem, że jest kochana :) Cudownie!
DeleteGreat post Denise. I have 6 cats and very wary. I don't have any flowers or house plants as a lot are toxic to cats and animals. These plug in scents and other things like that... candles and such I refuse to have too as they are dangerous to cats.
ReplyDeleteGood couch syrup. I make one with honey and white onions. Let it soak overnight and drain the liquid. You can store it in the fridge for abouts 6 months. I swear by it. :-D
Thank you Ananka :) How wonderful and I would not be buying a lot of plants either or plug in scents. Thanks for the tip on your cough syrup. I have read a lot of good things about onions. I will give that a try when I need it.
DeleteI would absolutely love to have your cottage. I am all of those philes. I am particularly a dog adorer. I've had three bassets, best goofs ever! I really enjoyed all of this, Denise.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a wonderful cottage. I would be very happy living in such a pretty spot :) Your bassets sound great. So glad you enjoyed Sandra, thank you!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday to you too Christine :)

DeleteI'm going off to your dream cottage in my mind and taking along some of the treats you shared, too. Have a wonderful Friday, Denise.
ReplyDeleteI will put the kettle on Ellen and the tea sandwiches are already made :) you have a wonderful Friday also.
DeleteLo que es el día, ya ha finalizado y cuando acabe este comentario me tengo que poner a preparar la cena.

ReplyDeleteAnd hello to you too my lovely friend. Yes, the cottage would be a great place on that cliffside. Thank you and I am so glad you enjoyed your visit :)
DeleteAdorable post! My dog would not like to hear that ice cream is bad for him.
ReplyDeleteHappy you think so Linda :) I know and my parents fed theirs many, many, many years ago, chocolate!!!

Greetings Elkes, you are very sweet and kind. Thank you very much :) A lovely weekend to you too my friend with hugs :)
DeleteCynophile? I love it! I'll have to tell my cynophile husband that's what he is. And yes, we need kindness now more than ever.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kay, like Art I am also a cynophile, but then I enjoyed my pet cat so much all those years ago, that I am also an Ailurophile :)
DeleteI always enjoy your "this and that" posts, Denise. I am definitely a dog person. Have had dogs all my life - from dachshunds to golden retrievers to labs to Australian dogs. I'm so glad you got some rain. That is always a good thing. Those rooms are so charming. I especially love that space with the desk. How quaint that is. The cheddar cheese bread sounds Yummy. September is almost over, oh my. It's such a calm and lovely month.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
That is great Sheri, thank you so much :) Wonderful that you have had many dogs in your life. I also but not for several years now. I get my doggy fixes when I go to the gardens :))) Amazing that we are almost into October Let me know how that cheese bread turns out :0
DeleteDear Denise! So many wonderful things in this post. The cheesey bread looks good. I bet I can make a non-dairy take on that. I'll have to give it a go. I can't eat dairy. But there's plenty of fake cheese out there that might work, or make my own. Either way, love the idea of that bread. Back in the day when my aunt and I used to go to a county store, the store made homemade bread like that (I could eat it then), and we'd buy two loaves. One for the car ride and one for home!
ReplyDeleteHappy you think so Ivy, thank you very much :) When you make the bread with the alternative ingredients could you let me know what you thought of it please? I am very curious. A nice memory of the time with your aunt. I have a memory of a bakery when as a kid I caught the ferry from Devon to Cornwall with my family. We always popped into a bakery on docking. Fresh made bread and butter with the butter melting into the bread still warm from the oven. Yum!
DeleteYou covered a lot of territory in this post! How dod you do it?
ReplyDeleteI realize I do, but I don't rush them. Sometimes I am working on these things anywhere between two weeks and a month. I put them down for a few days and whenever I find anything I think you all might be interested in, I'll add it. Odds and bods in more ways than one :)
