We were in Merchants' Square this day. No time to explore far as we had to return to the hotel to get ready for the wedding taking place that evening.
In the meantime we had a lovely walk and also found a place for lunch. After last night's sumptuous meal we were looking for something light. I will share that post next Tuesday.
We always pass the Thomas Jefferson's statue. As you can see he is shown sitting on a bench and is writing The Declaration of Independence. There is room for a couple of people to sit next to him. Today he didn't have the usual line waiting patiently for a photo op.
Here is a close up of his face. You can read his biography at this link. The statue is located between the historic area of Colonial Williamsburg and The College of William and Mary.
This road is closed to cars and larger transport.
I would enjoy browsing in the many shops available...
and am already looking forward to going back. I hope it won't be too long.
So, did you sit beside Thomas Jefferson? And even the weather cooperated beautifully!
ReplyDeleteWe did Ginny and I will be sharing that sometime. The weather was gorgeous! We were wondering as it was very rainy for a few days, and then the sun came out for the wedding :)
DeleteThe statue seems quite approachable.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful looking place there Denise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret, I have always enjoyed it :)
DeleteLoved the close up of the statue of his head Denise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret, I always like to get the detail of these magnificent sculptures :)

ReplyDeleteThank you Anni, can't wait to get back to do just that :)
DeleteMerchants square sounds like a place I would enjoy visiting. I would love to browse through all the shops. I think I would sit for a while with Thomas Jefferson too
ReplyDeleteHi Ann and thank you, it is a great town to walk around, and the shops have the kind of interesting products that are new to me :) Fun to look around them. As for Thomas, we have kept him company several times over the years, lol!
DeleteLooks like a good place to return and explore on another road trip since your time was limited on this trip. And maybe you or Gregg will take the photo opp with Jefferson.
ReplyDeleteI daresay we will have that photo op Dorothy. I neglected to mention that we have had our photo taken with him many times over the years :)
DeleteWhat a charming area!
ReplyDeleteCharming is a perfect description Christine, thank you :)
DeleteSo many nice things to look at. Love that statue of Jefferson. I also love those curio and china cabinets in your previous post. Lovely things in those cabinets. I love history as much as you do, Denise.
ReplyDeleteI loved those cabinets also Gigi, and it is very nice that we are kindred spirits in the history department :)
