I have shared this before but I think it is worth repeating, especially now. Just in case you didn't see it last time, here is a favorite of mine by Wendell Berry. I thank Mr. Berry for his beautiful poem.
The Peace of Wild Things
When despair of the world grows in me
And I wake in the night at the least sound,
In fear of what may life and my children's lives may be,
I go lie down where the wood drake
Rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
Who do not tax their lives with forethought
Or grief. I come into the presence of still water
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
Waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
It is wonderful!! I especially love the part about not taxing their lives with forethought. We seem to always love the same poems. I wish I could find ones as good as you do.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ginny, and I am very happy you enjoyed it so much :) I have many poems I have had for a long time, and then there are times when I am lucky finding them.
DeletePoets are so often underrated. But not by you, never by you.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100 percent and you are so kind Sue, thank you :) I think of some of these poets as being philosophers and very wise people, I will never underrate their worth.
DeleteI've never heard that one before. It's beautiful

ReplyDeleteThank you Martha :)
DeleteThere are many nights when I lie awake doing this and I'm not sure going outside and lying down would help but it is an absolutely beautiful poem
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra, glad you liked it. I was out in the woods today sitting on one of benches. I closed my eyes and tried to meditate with the sounds of nature around me. It was very soothing, but in the middle of the night it would be difficult to get here. When I am lying in bed I will try to put myself back on that bench. We'll see if it works :)
DeletePoems like this, in times like now, bear repeating!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!!
