GREEN SPRING GARDENS CONTINUED FROM VISIT ON 4-4-26

Here are a few things to know about a tulip's symbolism, if you enjoy knowing these things.

Red tulips are used to declare "believe me" or show passionate love, often given in early relationships.

Being given various tulips symbolize fresh starts, making them popular for Easter or new endeavors.

Yellow tulips are given to brighten someone's day, representing sunshine, happiness and hope.

Pink tulips are ideal for conveying affection, tenderness and appreciation, often given on Mother's Day.

Purple tulips often represent admiration or respect.

White tulips are given to express sincere apologies or peace.

Orange symbolizes energy, desire and enthusiasm.

Black symbolizes power, strength and elegance.

There were also daffodils left, and some of the Tulips had opened fully. The Peony which is another particular favorite, and Johnny Jump-ups, also known as Wild pansy or just Pansy (in the collage above, top middle. I am trying to ID everything even though I know many of us recognize immediately).

There was also a nice showing of Grape hyacinth and I like this were they surrounded the Maltese cross plant, and I see a couple of pansies in there too. Not sure what the leaves are at the bottom left.

These could be Jonquils. I don't know enough about them to recognize the difference.

There are two ID's in one photo below. A Wild daffodil and Japanese spiraea.

OUR WALK AT GREEN SPRING GARDENS 4-4-26

Perhaps it's just as well I didn't go to the garden center to pick up plants yet. We had a freeze warning last night. That is still on our to-do list but right now the weather has gone from very warm to downright chilly.

In the meantime, we visited the garden on April 4th. We like this area because it's nice and flat. We not only were looking forward to a little exercise, but I wanted to see the tulips before they started to disappear. 

Also, my head was turned skywards. I focused on a few clouds over the center green area. 

They were incredible and I enjoy sky watching while sitting on a park bench.

There were a few people walking around and we noticed a group of young men sitting on the grassy area. On closer inspection they were playing cards. There was a lot of laughter, and that was very nice to hear. This was on the Saturday, no work for them that day. They were young and it was a good time to get together with friends and have some fun.

The tulips were putting on quite a show.

Here is the Moon Gate I like. I have seen them before on our travels while visiting other gardens. It was a very happy day when we saw this one being built. It will be two years ago this coming August that we saw its beginnings. They are filling the flower beds very nicely. They should be a sight to behold this summer.

This beauty had just walked through it with its humans after they had stopped to take photos.

And I have to admit, I fell in love with the dress the lady was wearing. 

Sometimes it can be a fashion show at the garden. A memory: there was a time back in my younger years that I wanted to be a fashion designer. I have always had an interest in clothing, even those from another era. I know of someone who works in the costume department at a theater. I never in my wildest dreams thought such an opportunity would be open to me in my small town back in the day. If I knew then what I know now, I would have explored the idea more closely. Usually, I am concentrating on walking but this time I was sitting quietly on one of the benches when the couple and their pup came into view. There are videos that I look at online every now and again, where costumes are shown not only from this country but others. I love to settle down and watch them, especially those showing traditional clothing going as far back as the middle-ages, and even further. I have favorite times for fashion, the 20s to the 40s, but then I see another era and I love the Victorian. I could go on. What do you think of her dress? Do you like it? 

I was very happy to see a few daffodils. The ones in our neighborhood have all gone.

I didn't realize peonies would be blooming already.

The garden is slowly coming back to life after its winter rest.

I will finish here as I have a few things I need to get done but will have more photos to share soon.

POSITIVITY POST - FLOWERS FROM THE NETHERLANDS

The tulips are from my archives but the article I read recently.

“Dutch Grown”, a floral company in the Netherlands, has donated over 10,000 flower bulbs to transform a park in Swannanoa, North Carolina.  

The company said, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. That belief is our gift to Swannanoa and everyone in Western North Carolina.”

Once again it does the heart good to see people trying to help others by lifting their spirits with these kind acts.

FLOWERS AT THE GARDEN

 

In my last post I left you with my first photo above. I visited the garden looking for tulips and once again I wasn't disappointed. We hadn't left the parking lot yet. There is a flower bed that stretches the whole length where we leave our cars, and you can look through to the garden beyond. 

I saw many different varieties, but my app only said that they were 'garden tulips'. I tried to ID them without success, but I am happy to show you these.  Their names would have been nice so that I could put them on my list for planting for next season, but I was content to just look at each one. They were all beautiful! As you can see, this is a tulip post today. 

Many had opened quite a bit, a few with their petals flopping over, but they were exquisite!

The path we take, the house is the first thing that greets us and as we get closer, we can see their flower bed is full of them.

If you have been following me to the garden for a while, you'll know I more often than not take photos of this house.  Probably because I love the place!

Did you know that tulips originated in Turkey?

They were first cultivated as early as 1000 AD.

The word 'tulip' comes from an old Turkish word for turban, which looks very similar to the flower.

In the 1600s, the popularity of tulips went global.

At one point, the market for tulips was so intense, the flower was worth more than diamonds.

Today the tulip is one of the world's most recognized flowers.

We have over 150 species of tulips on our planet.

Of those species, there are 3000 varieties of tulips. Maybe that's why all I got on my app was 'garden tulip!'

There will be more of them next time, along with other flowers.

ON THE WAY TO THE GARDEN...

 On the way to the garden on Tuesday, we pass an old, abandoned house. One other spot driven by recently, we were surprised to see that that home had already been leveled. This was the second home in a month. I managed to take a photo of the previous place. The next day it was gone. I have been trying to get photos of all the ones in our area, and beyond. Seeing them for all these years in this state of disrepair, I have gotten used to these old homes. A lot of them look like they are just going to fall right over but I always wonder who lived there, thinking this was once someone's dream. What stories those old walls could tell.

My dear other half reminded me that there was another coming up in a few miles. It is hard to slow down as there is always a lot of traffic (the photo above is a cropped version of the first). When he said we were about to drive by, I already had the window rolled down, the strap of the phone wrapped tightly around my wrist and was ready. A 'someone's-one-time-dream-home-taken-on-a-fly-by' photo. It has been in this state for as long as we have lived in the area, and that's been for over 30 years plus. The house must have been built when the road was little more than a narrow country lane, long before this heavier traveled route appeared. I guess someone finally sold the land. We have an abundance of farmland that has been in families for generations, that have gone to the building companies. We often surmise a parent passed on and the children decided it was time. Land is always considered a premium right? 

I wonder what will be built in its place? Gas stations are going up everywhere, or more homes. I will be paying attention.

A few miles on we saw police officers on motorcycles going in the opposite direction. There must have been a dozen or more. A little further on we came across these guys. I thought they looked really sharp. As you can see by their short-sleeved shirts it was a warm day. We wished them well as we passed by.

So, from old, abandoned buildings, to motorcycle police officers. Next time it will be flowers from the garden.
