SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - DID YOU SEE?

And as we all know around here, that's how it goes on a Saturday Morning at the Bird Feeder.

Thanks for not groaning too much, and have a great day!

For our international friends.

1st Photo:

I'm glad you filled the water bowl. I have been very thirsty lately.

2nd Photo:

Where is the camera lady? I want to ask her when she is going to start feeding us again.

She is busy doing things like changing lightbulbs.

3rd Photo:

Which reminds me...

You are not going to tell us one of your changing lightbulb jokes?

4th Photo:

Oh please, nothing as crass as that! Did you see a finch almost fly into a window? He barely finched!

Well, at least it wasn't a lightbulb joke.

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER

I won't bother repeating it, the joke was not very funny.  However, I gave him an A+ for trying to make me laugh.  After he finished, his expression was one of hope, as he waited for my reaction.  I laughed anyway because he was so cute acting out the joke (those feathers were flying every which way).  Facial expressions were great too.  He was right about his friends, I liked them, and I love my backyard birds.  They are all different, all adorable and they all get along.

WHO TOOK IT?

"I should have taken it inside!" said I forlornly to my Dear Other Half.  My owl seedball disappeared overnight! I have been staring at that sweet little seedball from my son and daughter-in-law for a a while now.  It's been inside a cupboard where I keep my coffee, and I bring it out now and again, look at it fondly - I became attached - and put it back inside the cupboard in its special spot.  Then it snowed and I felt it was time to put it outside for what it was intended for, the birds.

When I saw it was gone the next morning, I think my mouth dropped open and my eyes rolled to the ceiling. Gregg said it must have been the squirrel.  I wasn't convinced and I said yes, possibly, but it was so strange because I had seen the squirrels looking up at both the hanging feeder and the owl, weighing strategies no doubt.  It seemed to me that the pole was too high, and would have been difficult to climb. Our trees that were cut down provided a freeway for them, as they bounced down on the branches at a helter-skelter pace and jumped onto the top of the old hanger.  No freeway for them any more. The birds were all of a twitter! What could have happened?" they twittered.
This is what I saw going through the squirrel's head.  "Nope, I can't steal it and besides, that lady is too nice.  She immediately brings out a pile of seeds when she sees me looking at her.  I have her well trained!  Pavlov's Dog could have taken a few tips from me."
I speak squirrel don't you know?

Well, okay, I wish I could speak squirrel, but more importantly I wish I had taken that sweet little owl inside.  It actually crossed my mind that because it was shaped like an owl's head, the squirrel would have stayed well away.  Not really but yes, Polly Anna and I have a lot in common. I should have taken it inside that night.  Have I said that already?

Possible Perpetrator No. 1!  Maybe, but I had my doubts and told my Dear Other Half exactly that.   Look at that face?  Butter wouldn't melt in that mouth!  Gregg said you'd better take the suet hanger down too, but I told him I had that firmly attached to the hanger.  The hook was a tight fit and even I had a hard time trying to remove it.  No, the suet feeder stays, and I also decided on leaving the hanging feeder.  That was a bit of an iffy decision, but I was tired and my brain was making rash decisions.  "Stay away from it buddy!"  "I'm not going anywhere near it." said he!

I put the bird cam out again.  I had taken it inside the night before, to download three days worth of photos and there was no record of what happened. This night I was taking no chances.  Just after midnight I put my boots on and made my way carefully across the snow, secured the camera, went inside and then went off to bed.  I had quite a suprise the next day when I checked the memory card. At 2.50 a.m. a ghostly shape appeared to be walking along the far rail.  Possible Perpetrator No. 2?  I will let you know next time who that was.  No proof but lots of circumstantial evidence.
Hmmmm….who likes to watch a lot of crime shows around here?

Thanks for looking and enjoy your day.

MORE VIDEOS FROM THE BIRD CAM...

and a few photos.

Dove and House Finches

Male and female House Finches

Male Downy Woodpecker and Finches

Eastern Gray Squirrel and House Finch

Male Red-bellied Woodpecker

White-breasted Nuthatch

Mourning Doves

Another Mourning Dove at dusk

Red-bellied Woodpecker

Male Northern Cardinal

An Eastern Bluebird, almost certain.  As you can see, he got very close to the lens.  I always think they can hear the shutter sound, or maybe see the lights.  They are rare visitors for me and unfortunately, I didn't get it on a video.   As I like to say with all my blurry photos, it's a memory.

Thanks for looking and I hope your day is a great one.

BIRD CAM IS UP FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MONTHS

The Dear Man putting out birdseed.  Thank you Dear Man!  We moved the hanger pole nearer the camera.  I have to get new bird feeders as it's a double hanger.  The other was getting a bit worse for wear.

It was not 73 degrees Fahrenheit that day.  Our temperature gauge seems to be a bit off.   The House Finches were the first to feed.
Then a Crow.  Two or three usually turn up at a time.
The Red-bellied Woodpecker appeared and startled the Finch.  Interesting effect on the wings here.
This cheeky little thing was next.  A bit blurry.
A Downy Woodpecker next.
A Cardinal and further along a Grey-slated Junco and a Finch.  The Junco turned up a couple of weeks ago.  They stay in this area until spring.
A closer photo of the Red-bellied Woodpecker.
I am looking forward to a bit more sunshine.  It's been rather gray these last few days.  Even though the photos aren't as sharp as I would like, it feels good to have the bird cam up again.  It is always fun to see what appears when I download the photos, blur or no blur.

Has anyone had a problem downloading videos onto blogger?  I used to go through YouTube but I am wondering if you have to pay a subscription to download videos now as I can't seem to find how to do it.  The icon used to be right there on the page and it was easy. When I put my videos straight onto blogger, they don't seem to work.  I think I am doing it the right way.  I don't think it's operator error but won't rule it out, says I smiling.

I hope your week has been going well.
Thanks for taking a look.
