THE RAPSCALLIONS WERE BACK...

We had been out for a couple of hours, rolled into the garage and I opened the car door, only to have a wet nose shoved in my face and had a large mouth gently grab my hand, this as I retreated because I just knew they would be inside the car. So, I managed to shut the door carefully but quickly. They arrived in complete and utter silence, apart from the sound of a few seconds of shuffling paws as they approached. They were very excitable, but I don't remember them barking this time, nor the last. Lots of zoomies with those tails.

We had not seen them in almost a month when they visited that first time. See them at this link if you missed it. Gregg told me to stay in the car as he didn't want them knocking me over, so I watched as he walked them across the road and, of course, I had to snap off a few photos. I was once again startled by their appearance but found myself very happy to see them again. These two were such bundles of energy and happiness, and you couldn't help but feel some of that transferred. I watched as they ran and played as Gregg walked them across the road. The neighbors were home fortunately. I don't know how they got out because they have a very high fence around their yard. Perhaps through a door into the house as the garage door was open.

"The world would be a nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as unconditionally as a dog." - M. K. Clinton
"A dog can't think that much about what he's doing, he just does what feels right." - Barbara Kingsolver
"Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift." - Mary Oliver
"A dog wags its tail with its heart." - Martin Buxbaum
"The gift which I am sending you is called a dog and is, in fact, the most precious and valuable possession of mankind." - Theodorus Gaza
"Why does watching a dog be a dog fill one with happiness?" - Jonathan Safran Foer
"The dog is a gentleman. I hope to go to his heaven, not mans." - Mark TwainGregg related this to me. He knocked on our neighbor's front door. No one came at first but then on the second knock their five-year old answered and he said, "Hey, your dogs are out." She turned and yelled into the house, "Hey, the dogs are out!" Dad appeared and said to the five-year old, "Hey, how did they get out?" Five-year old shrugged shoulders as the dogs ran back into the garage and disappeared out of sight.

Gregg tried to calm them down as he was walking them across the road. He says they didn't acknowledge his deep voice commands of "Don't jump up!" or "Sit!" They saw him as their plaything. The second plaything stayed secured inside the car until first plaything came back and announced all was clear. But have to say, the arrival of those dogs sure gave us a lot of smiles.

Coincidentally and after telling our son about their visit, he called back two hours later and told us when he was out taking a walk with our daughter-in-law and her mom, they rescued a husky running in traffic. All he found was an 800 number on her collar that connected him to an answering service (a first for us), which he called. He gave them the number on the collar, his phone number and that he had the dog, and hung up just as a car drove by. It stopped and a lady shouted out that the dog belonged to her neighbor and was called Luna. Luna had a brother called Shadow she said, and offered to take Luna back to her neighbors. Hopefully Luna and Shadow were reunited soon after. Our son was still hanging on to her by holding her collar and he was glad the neighbor turned up. The dog happily jumped into her car. That was our dog-day!

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone,
and thanks for stopping by.

  1. You did a fantastic job of capturing their frenzied energy! I love dogs, too. But a large one would knock me over, as I have very bad balance and bad knees now. I bet you wanted to play with them, but it is just as well that you stayed in the car!

    1. So nice of you to say that Ginny, it was easy as they didn't stop bouncing, lol! Yes, I try to be careful and was glad I hadn't gotten out of the car as it doesn't take much to knock me over. I sometimes forget and do a fast turn, and I'm gone if I can't catch onto something. Lesson learned, and learning I cannot do any fast turns anymore. The brain says yes, the body is definitely saying no-no! I think we may be in the same boat? Oh gosh, did I ever want to play with them.

  2. What a heartwarming adventure with those two beautiful dogs!
I had an experience at the dog beach, too. A Labrador nudged my hand, and I said, "Well, hello there!" whereupon he licked my hand. I turned around and saw his owner quite a distance away. I asked him, "Don't you want to go to your mom? Look—there she is!" and *whoosh*—he ran right back to her. She waved at me, put him on his leash, and headed off in the other direction. It was such a lovely moment, and my heart filled with joy—just like yours!
Your son really was a knight in shining armor; that woman must have been so grateful!
Thank you, dear Denise, for these wonderful photos! Have a beautiful day! hugs Elke

    1. Hello Dear Elke. Thank you, I love how you described that, it was indeed a heartwarming adventure. Thank you for sharing your own experience with the sweet labrador. These moments do fill our heart with joy, don't they? Yes, our son has a very kind heart and this is not the first time he has rescued an animal in his busy neighborhood. He is very modest, though we are very proud of him. He does these things because he puts himself in the place of the person who is looking for them. You have a beautiful day too my friend, hugs, Denise

    1. Hi Ruby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3 :) they were gentle in their sweet natures, but their bouncy bodies made me think twice. What I would have loved to do is wrap my arms around them both and give them a big hug, lol!

  4. What gorgeous dogs they are, and so friendly and obviously loved being free on the grass and road. Pleased they got safely home. The story you told of the other dog, pleased that got home safely too, Denise.

  5. You can tell how much energy those two dogs have from the pictures. They sure looked like they were enjoying themselves. Good thing there wasn't a lot of traffic around when they were crossing the street.

    1. Fortunately, we live in a development where there is traffic but they have to go very slow. Even so, I worried about them even with our narrow roads. We had two resident teenagers crash into their own home speeding up that narrow road once about 20 years' ago. Fortunately, the teenagers we have seen lately seem to be more sensible!

  8. Hello, Denise
I worry when I see dogs running loose in the street.
The Golden retrievers are such happy and friendly dogs, maybe overfriendly.
They are beautiful dogs, love the photos.
    Take care, enjoy your day!

    1. Hello Eileen, me too, it's very worrisome and most definitely friendly dogs who are very playful. I suppose they've got another couple of years before they get out of their puppy stage :) You take care and enjoy your day also :)

  9. Dogs can certainly turn your life upside down. It's advisable to ensure that they're safely contained, whoever they belong to. Not everyone likes dogs.

  13. Manners are things dogs need. I'm still working with my little ones. Not jumping on people and staying in your own yard are vital things to teach dogs.
I love those dogs, don't get me wrong.
Yesterday while hiking, I was going to go to the bathroom and two ladies asked to hold Hannah and Charlie. They were a bit rambunctious but settled quickly.
Of course my dogs are only 7 inches tall.

What a bunch of fun shots!

    1. I know what you mean and I agree Val. Just like teaching our children, it takes lots of love and patience. They also need to feel secure with boundaries being set. That’s a lovely story about the ladies offering to look after Hannah and Charlie. How very kind of them. Yes, a little bit different when only 7inches tall :)

  16. They are very frisky and obviously escape artists. Thankful they were not injured rompoin w/o supervisiont. My daughter used to pet sit for Tobi a very large Golden Retriever next door. They had a fenced in yard but he quickly learned how to open the fence gate with his nose. Never jumped the fence We came home many days to find him on the porch.
Finally the had an 6' wooden gate built. They put the latch to the gate on the outside
    Tobi never got out again

    1. Yes, I remember our old dog. When our neighbors adopted theirs after we had had ours for five years, our sweet pooch managed to sprint across the lawn and jump over a 6 ft fence, using the halfway beam and hanging paws over the top to heave herself over. She was definitely an escape artist and round about the same age and size and we always tried our best to prevent her doing that. Fortunately, things settled down as she got older. Tobi must have been a very clever dog and thanks for telling his story, very much enjoyed.

I really loved seeing all the sculptures' they all looked so life like and with such detail. Amazing!
Sorry I missed Gregg's birthday and my wishes are very late but I hope he enjoyed his special day.
Thank you for the new food recipe inspirations and the fun with food pictures - so clever.
I do enjoy seeing all your photos and the other pictures, along with all the wise thoughts. The Pooh and Piglet 'Difficult Days' touched my heart.

    1. Hi Diane, fortunately we live on a quiet cul-de-sac and the community here doesn't allow more than 25 mph driving. The problem is if they wander further and eventually reach the main road which can be treacherous. Hopefully, they will calm down and realize where their safe place is :) I am not at my best these days Diane and Gregg says our dog days are over because he thinks I have fallen enough times over the years, that dogs would be the last straw :) he feels the same about cats.
