Your husband had a lovely sense of humor. I often think of my outside birds and others as my family. I only discovered this murder of crows a couple of years ago. I have fun discovering words.
I have heard of some of these animal group names, Denise, but it was fun to see others like a congregation of alligators and a convocation of eagles, who knew?
I did know a few of them Denise :-D My dad tried to teach me them in the 80s and 90s. He was one for information haha! I always remember A Gaggle of Geese for some reason! :-D
Well, your dad sounded like a lovely man Ananka. My dad tried to teach me too and was very much one for information. My husband at times says to me, now there's your dad, and he meant that - I think - in a good way, lol!
wow!! i did not feel too intelligent after reading this...and as a bird/animal lover i must hold my head in shame. i did not know any of these and i am surprise that some of the groups have an official name...they don't all have the same name, right? are you posting the answers tomorrow. i like the graphic, it's so colorful!!
Debbie, you ARE intelligent and most definitely no need to hold your head in shame but I'm hoping you are joking and I think you are, lovely lady. We're just learning something new every day and I'm loving it. Not a day goes by that we don't learn something and don't even realize it. No, no answers and I guess from what John (Anvilcloud) reminded me, that they do have different names depending on what part of the world you live in :) Glad you like the graphic, it's AI and I asked for the ferns and palms to edge, and the animals. It takes a few tries. The hedgehog looked like no hedgehog I had ever seen, and I've never seen owls with cat faces. But we got there to something decent. It always surprises me what it can produce.
No, you are most definitely not Sandra. I'm teaching myself too. It's all meant to be a little word fun. I just love word things, another childhood thing. I may not take it all at one sitting, but that's why I like to come back and refresh :)
A stand of Flamingos.......love that one! It's such an unusually beautiful bird. I think they get their pink color from all the shrimp they eat possibly?
That’s great Sheri :) I read somewhere that flamingos got their color from eating shrimp. I agree with your assessment of this unusual but beautiful bird.
Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.
I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I will not be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!
I didn't know several of these. The Hyenas and Cats crack me up!

ReplyDeleteMe too Ann :)
DeleteAre these collective terms ever used in real conversation?
ReplyDeleteJust for fun, though I might try surprising someone if ever I come across a cackle of hyenas ;)
DeleteThat's a pretty poster, and useful, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Janice, happy you think so :)
DeleteI've always loved the phrase, a Murder of Crows. My husband used to say when he saw crows...."Hey, look, there is your family!" :)

ReplyDeleteGlad you think so Margaret and thank you. I enjoy sharing what I find :)
DeleteA always thought it is a clowder of cats. It might depend on where you’re from.
ReplyDeleteAnd the geese (in numbers) are a gaggle on the ground and a skein in the sky, at least as it pertains to the ubiquitous Canada Goose.
I learned something new John, thank you :)
DeleteWTG DENISE AND I MUST SAY A MURDER OF CROWS IS A GOOD NAME.
ReplyDeleteTHEY ARE LOUD AND A BIG PAIN IN MY TUSHIS

DeleteI had to really study what this was - I think I am slow - but I think I got it. You are teaching me here.
