A FEW FAVORITES FROM MY ARCHIVES TAKEN IN LATE 2008/EARLY 2009

You can enlarge each photo for more details.

Yellow-collared Lovebird taken in an aviary while visiting the Honolulu Zoo.

Fir tree with pinecone (taken 200 hundred smiles south, still in Virginia). I tried to find out what type it was, but the closest ID was an Eastern White Pine. They were found along a wooded pathway next to water near the coast.

Examples of pine found online.  What do you think?

Great Blue Heron taken in Florida.

Mallard in Washington DC.

Last one - a large embedded tile in the wall of a seafood restaurant. It was torn down and in its place, a storage facility. I hope someone had the good sense to save that tile. I thought it was a lovely work of art.

That's about it for my favorites. I hope you have enjoyed them.

Thanks for looking and
have a great day.

  2. You really captured the Mallard's shimmering emerald head! And the heron. I have taken many photos of herons, maybe hundreds. But none are as good as this one, it is quite spectacular. Spider flowers always freak me out. They are the plant version of a spider.

    1. We lucked out that day with the sun shining on the duck, same for the heron. The spider flower would fit well in a prehistoric setting :)

  4. Each photo sounds like it holds a quiet story—nature’s charm, a moment of curiosity, and a piece of art possibly lost to time but not to memory

  8. Based on what I see of the needles, Denise, I am sure it is not Eastern White Pine, but I am unable to tell you what it is! A pine for sure! You are right about the tile. It would be a shame if it were simply destroyed in the demolition.

The first one doesn't look real. I bet all the other birds think he's a decoy. 😄

  25. I thought that Lovebird was a puzzle at first. It's so bright and beautiful. I didn't know there were that many different kinds of pinecones. They are frequently on my lawn, and as soon as we gather them, they seem to fall right back on the ground again. But they are a mountain thing, and I wouldn't have anything else. ; ) The great blue heron is spectacular, and those mallard ducks are special, and this one is a handsome fellow.

  28. The Lovebird is sat very patiently for you to take the photo. Maybe it was saying 'Do you think this is my best side?'
I do hope that tile was saved. It is lovely and would be a shame to just get binned.
