Everyone wanted to try a New York Pizza. Son had either been here before or had heard about its excellent reputation, so this was one of their first stops. By all reports it was excellent.
Our niece found 'The Rock' and had her picture taken with him (outside Madame Tussauds as you can see - they did not go inside but were glad for the photo op).
They all found it very moving.
This level was not far below the observation deck with the family looking at the New York skyscrapers far below. Our niece is center and her partner is to her left with his daughter walking towards them also on the left.
Her cousin took this photo of our dear niece. I wondered who on earth was brave enough to clean the outside of all those windows!
I found this very famous photo from 1932 showing men eating their lunch - which I have seen several times over the years...
but I have never once seen a photo of the man who took their photo. Another brave man with a great head for heights. I love those shoes!
Son took a selfie with the city far below.
There is a King Kong exhibit here, which they visited, depicting the scene when King Kong climbs the Empire State Building from the old 1933 movie. The photo below is one I found online. Our son told us that this famous primate moves from window to window, not the hands obviously but it all looks effective.
Son had a good time being goofy...
and enjoying time with his new friend King Kong.
The next photo shows a shot of the top of the building taken by son again. This was from the observation deck I believe...
and one of son at the top and outside.
By this time it was decided to make their way back to the car, as they still had a bit of a walk to get there. They arrived home not too long before midnight, thoroughly tired but very happy at all they had seen that day. We heard all about it the next day, and it was a lot of fun listening to them.
I have other photos to share from our family's visit and will put them on here as I get them put together. They were in NYC on the Monday and were leaving for home the following Friday. We let them set their own pace for the rest of the week.
I hope you have enjoyed your quick trip into New York City.
Thanks for visiting and have a great day.
Lovely series of photos. Nice to see your son and niece as well. The 9/11 memorial is beautiful and very moving.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, they saw a lot in a relatively short space of time :)
DeleteHere in Greece, for some people it's a lifelong dream to go to New York!!
ReplyDeleteHow many of the places we see in the movies have you visited!!
Thank you Denise!!
You are very welcome Katerina and that is a great question :) Thank you!
DeleteI love these last four shots of the city! And the unusual King Kong exhibit!! Behind the scenes with his hands! The photo of the men on the building scaffolding, I have seen before. I actually tried to buy one from a restaurant that was closing down and selling some of their things. So that is actually the man taking the photo? Yikes he has less to balance on than the other men!! These people were out of their minds!! The 911 Memorial photos are excellent; I don't think I have seen it before.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny :) I have seen pictures of the Memorial and it is an amazing and moving memorial in those. I can only imagine how it must be in person. I remember seeing that photo of the workers on the wall of a nearby delicatessen. That picture of the photographer was something else.
DeleteYour son is a great guide and gave them all some lovely memories!
ReplyDeleteHe certainly did, thank you for sharing for your sweet comment :)
DeleteAmazing views of a great city. Your relatives were lucky to have your son take them. It is a long drive. Your son looks a happy, caring person.
ReplyDeleteHe was very happy to take them and we were so proud of him for offering :) Thank you for your sweet comment Diane.
DeleteGood photos and what views, just so good to see - thank you Denise.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Margaret :) happy you enjoyed them.
DeleteWhat a wonderful glimpse into your family's NYC adventure—thank you for sharing the stories and snapshots; it truly felt like tagging along for the fun
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you enjoyed their adventures Roentare. Thank you for sharing that :)
DeleteWow. Again.
ReplyDeleteA precious, precious day.
Thank you Sue, it certainly was.
DeleteAnd I thought they would make a bee line for Central Park!
ReplyDeleteThat was on their list of things to do, but alas they ran out of time :)
DeleteThis was certainly a whirlwind NYC tour and your son was a very good guide in taking family members to so many of the city's top spots (pun intended). There's also quite nothing like a slice of NYC pizza. We have yet to visit the memorial, but I would like to do so one day.
ReplyDeleteThank you my friend, he was indeed a great tour guide. He managed to tick 99 percent off their requests. I hope you both get up there to enjoy the city one of these days.
DeleteGreat photos from NYC, looks like your family had a great visit.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday! Take care, have a happy day!
Thank you Eileen, they certainly did. Happy Thursday to you also :)
DeleteFantastic photos. I really must visit one day :-D
ReplyDeleteThank you Ananka, when you get there I think you will have a great time :)
DeleteThis has been such a fun trip. Love all the pictures you shared here today. I've seen that old photo as well but never gave much thought to the person who took the picture. You wouldn't catch me up there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann :) No, that would be a bridge too far for me also :) Not good with heights.
DeleteGreat pictures
ReplyDeleteThank you Ashok :)
DeleteExtraordinary views. What a lovely trip for your niece.
ReplyDeleteThank you Janice, it certainly was :)
DeleteThe view from the top of the Empire State Building is dizzying.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like everybody had a great time!!
Perfect word to describe it Yogi :)
DeleteGreat photos! I have never seen the picture of the photographer of that famous picture of those men on lunch break, either. It's even scarier to look at him!! I'm afraid of heights but the family looks like they had a wonderful time and weren't bothered too much. Not sure I could even walk that close to the windows--lol! So glad they got a chance to visit New York. :)
ReplyDeleteNot one for heights either Rita, I don't know how I would have faired :)
DeleteThere are endless things to see . with so many people and buildings, you wonder how it operates.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but it seems to tick along perfectly - at least on the surface :)
DeleteSuch a great time in New York. I remember being very scared watching King Kong when I was little! Love that King Kong room!
ReplyDeleteI remember watching the movie too when I was little :)
DeleteWow, what an adventure. I'm not sure I'll ever get to New York, but it is fun to see through someone else's eyes.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way when I see places through another's camera lens Val :)
DeleteWhat a fabulous time!
ReplyDeleteIt was, they had a once in a lifetime experience :)
DeleteDenise what simply fantastic photos wow. The old one with the guys on the beams.
ReplyDeleteY I K E S.........OSHA would have a field day with that today. Thank you for all I especially paused at the 911 memorial

You are very welcome Cecilia, the Memorial moved me even through these photos. I guess we can all remember vividly where we were that day.
Deleteawesome pictures today!! new york has the best pizza, i have eaten it many times!! we have been to madame tussauds and loved it. i did not know about king kong. we have been to the 911 memorial, and it stirred up a lot of mixed, very emotional feeling. i keep begging the husband to take me to the city, now i am so excited to do so after reading all of this. the images of the city are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie :) I am happy to have sowed the seed for you to go on that trip Debbie :)
DeleteI could not be anywhere near that building. I have a serious problem with heights and felt a bit queasy looking at the photos. You are excellent hosts.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra, son was very happy to take them to NYC. He is a fan of the place.
DeleteAmazing photographs from up high ... and weren't they up high!!!

DeleteParece un viaje divertido. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteMuchas gracias. Mi familia lo pasó genial :) Te mando un beso.
DeleteThe King Kong exhibit was not there when I visited, but that was decades ago.
ReplyDeleteI think it mentions how long it’s been there at the website. I will have to take a look later :)
DeleteGreat series of photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat great memories of a wonderful day.
Thank you Sandra. They did well on their photos :) super memories indeed!
DeleteOh, I heard you have to try the New York pizza. Sounds delicious....and authentic. Love that picture of your niece and "The Rock." That 1932 black and white photo is amazing, along with the other one of the man taking a picture. Fun photo shoot your son had at the King Kong exhibit. I love the King Kong movies, and just recently watched one. I've always wanted to visit New York City, Denise, so I appreciate your post today. It was like I was right there in the midst of it all.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Thank you Sheri :) I hope you get there one day to enjoy all these things :)
DeleteThe 9/11 memorial must be a very special and reflective place to visit. I'm glad your niece and family were able to see it.
ReplyDeleteThose views from the top of the Empire State Building are incredible,.But, oh my goodness! Those men eating their sandwiches and the one who took the photo made me feel giddy. I'm not good with heights.
Glad your son had a fun time too, making friends with King Kong :-)
I agree Beverley and I was very happy they got to see it also. It was very important to them to do that. It gave me the chills to see those men eating so comfortably at such a great height, and then I had the same feeling when I saw the photographer. I am not good with heights either. Thank you, our son always has fun. Our children are our greatest blessing aren't they? :)
