Jane Goodall who is someone I have admired my whole life. She first captured my imagination not only because I was enthralled with her dedication to the chimpanzee, but because she and I shared last names. As a young girl I always wished that we were related. We weren't but I thought she was absolutely marvelous, and I still do. On April 3rd Jane celebrated her 91st birthday. A little late but...
Happy Birthday Jane!
You can read about her life story here. She certainly has lived a fascinating and very worthy life, and long may she do so.
Two of her quotes read:
"The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves."
and
"There is a powerful force unleashed when young people resolve to make a change."
Have a great day and thanks
for stopping by.
I totally agree! So your maiden name is Goodall?
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed :)
DeleteShe is a truly impressive person. Definitely a hero.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree Sue :)
DeleteA fascinating and wonderful person. Happy belated birthday to her.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely :)
DeleteSomeone I admire ENORMOUSLY. I have followed her life with great enthusiasm and I have most of what she has written. She should be an inspiration to us all, and especially to young girls growing up and dreaming of their future and the ways that they might leave their mark on the world. My dream dinner companions for an evening would be Sir David Attenborough, Jane Goodall and Marc Bekoff. Edward O. Wilson would have been at the table too had he not passed away a couple of years ago. These are the giants of my world.
ReplyDeleteTake out Marc Bekoff, please, and substitute Carl Safina, which is what I intended. There is a book by Bekoff on the coffee table and doubtless my mind registered on that.
DeleteWill do David and thank you for this wonderful comment. I am a big fan of David Attenborough also. I will have to read more about your other dinner guests. I probably know of their works but need a refresher. Thank you for mentioning them.
DeleteAn impressive group of dinner companions :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful person, in and out!
ReplyDeleteVery much so :)
DeleteEver since I saw her doc about water and the endless work of women and girls in some cultures to get and carry it daily, I've faithfully conserved mine. I'm using part of the world's supply, so thanks to her teaching, I'm using it wisely.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful comment Boud :)
