I TREATED MYSELF TO A NEW POETRY BOOK.

Its author is the man who wrote the quote I shared in my Blue Jay post here.  The book is called Nature’s Bounty by Justin Farley, who has become my favorite at this point in time. I loved the poem I am sharing with you today.

“Children of the Forest”

~Justin Farley~

I leave you my love of the forest

and the winding creek.

I gift you with believing you are poorest

when the sun’s warmth is absent from your cheek.

I impart to you the language of nature

and the secret harmony of her song;

I leave with you an overture

So you’ll know her arms is where you belong.

I grant you the skill of listening

with ears in tune with the earth.

I bless you with the excitement of discovering

The depth and extent of her worth.

My blood flows within you;

I see my spark with your eyes.

We are children of the forest through and through,

and our spirits soar when the eagles rise.

I hope you have enjoyed this poem. This is one that will stay with me for a very long time. I thought it was beautiful.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

SATURDAY MORNING AGAIN NOT AT THE BIRD FEEDER

These are from Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge, from a while ago, May 2012 to be exact.  At the gate the park ranger told us that some visitors had spotted Bald Eagles flying around, and he pointed out the trail where we might see them.  This was the trail we were heading too and ever hopeful but keeping expectations low, we were bowled over by first seeing the Osprey, and then the Bald Eagle.  Gregg took all the photos of them, except the one I took of him at the end of this post. They were flying very high, but I have cropped the picture for a better look.

The first indication of the birds were their calls as they flew over our heads.  They sounded very agitated and were squawking loudly.  Then we saw the Bald Eagle flying across their territory and we thought this might have been the reason for their distress.  We also thought they probably had a nest nearby and were being protective.
We could now identify the two Osprey.
Very agitated as previously mentioned...
because of the Bald Eagle.
A beautiful sight for us...
but not for the Osprey.  They didn't settle down until the eagle was a small speck in the distance.
They made our day!
Gregg agreed!
