This is a photo I keep on our mantle in the family room of my Mother and me at my Christening in early 1951. Another I have shared before but when I looked at it again, I thought to put it up for Mother’s Day. I still miss her dearly, always will.
“Half of the world are women, the other half are their children.”
~Efu Nyaki~
“Pooh,” said Piglet quietly, “do you ever think about the ones
who aren’t sitting beside us, but still feel close anyway?” Pooh
nodded very slowly. “Yes, Piglet. I think about them often.
Especially my mother. She may not always be with me, but I
feel her in every good thing I try to do. When I am kind, it is
because she taught me kindness. When I am brave, it is because
she told me I could be. And when I feel small and a bit lost, I
remember she always made me feel I was enough.” Piglet sat down.
So even though she isn’t here, she still is?” Pooh gave a little smile.
“Exactly, Piglet. Mothers are like that. They don’t stop being part of
your story, even if they are not in the middle of it all anymore. They
are in the way you see the world, in the way you hold onto hope,
and in the way you keep going when days feel heavy.” Piglet
sighed softly, a happy sort of sigh. “That sounds like love that
never ends.” And Pooh, still looking at the little picture in his
paws, whispered, “Yes, Piglet. That’s what mothers are -
love that never ends.”
I wish those who are celebrating and remembering their mothers, and also who are celebrating their own motherhood...
A Very Happy Mother's Day.
to all the Mothers who made us feel whole.

DeleteHappy Mother's Day Denise. We had it in March over here. :-D
ReplyDeleteI grew up without a mum. They divorced and she didn't want me *shrugs*. So went with my dad, I was like 3 or 4. He was the best human being I have ever known. He taught me so much about life. He passed when in 2002 when I was early 20s and I still miss him to this day. We never forget them <3
Oh Ananka, can't tell you how sorry I am to know that. It was very much her loss because I can tell you now, I would be very proud to have you as a daughter. It is wonderful that you loved your Dad as much as you did, the best human being as you so aptly put. No, we never forget them do we? Bless your Dad for the wonderful and kind Dad that he was. Happy Mother's Day my dear :)
DeleteI've had time with both daughters today though one was on FaceTime. They are mothers too and were celebrated by their daughters. I also posted a photo of our Mom on the thread I share with my 5 siblings.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful Marcia, and I am always so thankful for FaceTime to be able to chat with Loved Ones far away, as I am sure you are. Lovely that you have your 5 siblings to keep in touch with. Happy Mother's Day!
