Inside voices please!
Maybe, but that's how it goes on a Saturday Morning at the Bird Feeder.
Thanks for looking, and if you had one, I hope your Halloween went well. We had 17 little Trick o'Treaters and the doorbell stopped ringing at about 8.00 p.m.
The numbers are going down, kids are getting older. It seems also that people are holding more Halloween parties these days for their kiddos. But the ones who turned up looked darling dressed in their costumes. Some quite elaborate (one daddy was heard to say, "You've got to take off your proton pack son", whatever that is.
There were princesses in pretty sparkly dresses, and others just wearing a cute Halloween headband (kudos to that mom, or dad). The oldest threesome (girls) were about 12 years' old. All who rang the bell were very polite. Even the three-year-old who turned up at the door with her parents behind her, said thank you when she left and only took one piece of candy. In fact, all of them followed the rules, even when offered more.
We have a load of candy left. Temptation and willpower is being held back for the time being. We will see what tomorrow brings.
Have a great weekend everyone!
In case you saw my Sunday post, I did my usual published too early trick. I yanked it back this time. It will be there again on its proper publishing time, Sunday (though it has probably popped up in the reading list). Sorry about that.
For our international friends to translate:
1st Photo
"Someone is trying to make our space look more pleasing to us birds."
"She gave us extra!"
2nd Photo
"That's very nice but I am only interested in the birdseed."
"And a pumpkin. I don't think it's real though."
3rd Photo
"A bit much?"

The birds got extra treats, too!! We had a lot of trick-or -treaters too. Some are just too old. A friend had one who was in a costume, and so old that he was smoking!!! I hope you bought treats that you both like the leftovers!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly did Ginny :) My goodness, smoking at such a young age? I guess that's when it starts. Yes, we bought treats that we, or I should say I, like. Gregg doesn't like chocolate unless it's a Chunky :) and he can't find that everywhere. Sometime in our local drug store.
DeleteEnjoyed the bird chatter.
ReplyDeleteIt's pleasing some children knocked on your door - our street was very quiet like most evenings.
That's great Margaret, thank you :) Halloween is very popular over here but it depends where we live I think. I have friends in the country who got not one child. My son and daughter-in-law didn't have any either. The weather plays a part too.
DeleteHow sweet your birds are, and the chirping in the birdhouse! So much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad they were all so lovely.
Everything was quiet at my place, nothing in the house or any children. I slept well.
Beautiful novemberand Weekend!
hugs Elke
Greetings Elke, thank you very much :) I am very happy you enjoyed the birds. I have managed to stop at two small chocolate pieces. A nice treat considering I don't have them but rarely the rest of the year. The weather has been rainy and sunny, then windy but fortunately last evening was cooperative for the little ones to enjoy their candy collecting. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and sending hugs, Denise
DeleteHello Denise,
ReplyDeleteWe have just found you and Followed.
We have to say that All Hallows' Eve is not our favourite time of the year but, mercifully, Hungary does not have a strong Halloween tradition and Trick and Treaters are not ringing on doorbells as they are not to be found. There is, nevertheless, the culture of remembering the dead and today, we, along with countless other Hungarian families will go to cemeteries across the country and light candles and lay flowers in remembrance. It is a most touching and beautiful sight.
Where I grew up in the UK there was no Halloween and so when I moved here, I found it all very interesting. I am still not into decorating but am always fascinated with how people decorate their gardens. Visiting cemeteries to pay one's respects to those loved ones who have passed on seems a very touching tradition.
DeleteI love that stained glass decoration even if the birds don't. Nice that they got extra seed, it was trick or treat for them too.
ReplyDeleteI found it on Pinterest Ann. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in my tabs but will do that before I visit anyone else. I forgot sometimes :)
DeleteHalloween is not a thing over here...so it stayed quiet as usual. Happy Saturday, Denise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie, you have a happy Saturday too :) Halloween is over and done with for another year!
DeleteWe enjoyed our usual lights out Halloween. It wasn’t always like this, but there are reasons.
ReplyDeleteLights out sounds good. These spring chickens are not as agile as we used to be getting up and down for a couple of hours. Not moaning, it is what is what it is and we do enjoy seeing the kiddos :)
DeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne :)
DeleteHappy New Month at the bird feeder. Happy Halloween belated as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ivy, and the birds thank you and hope you enjoyed your Halloween too :)
DeleteYou had more than me. I only had 15. Eight blocks away they had 200.
ReplyDeleteWow, 200? I would have still been in bed two days later :)
DeleteAs always I love the bird feeder chatter.
ReplyDeleteI cracked up at"Some quite elaborate (one daddy was heard to say, "You've got to take off your proton pack son", whatever that is." Our neighborhood kiddos are all grown mostly at least on our cul de sac. I used to love seeing the creativity and fun costumes. One of my friends had Elvis visit.
Hugs cecilia
Wonderful and thank you Cecilia, so glad :) I would have enjoyed a visit from Elvis, lol! Hugs, Denise
DeleteI like the castle.
ReplyDeleteI got about 16 trick-or-treaters last night. I’m going to parcel out the leftover candy to local blessing boxes. I’ll get some food and hygiene products, maybe gloves, to put in the boxes with them. There isn’t one of those boxes near me, but I pass a couple when I drive to Strasburg or Front Royal.
Great, happy you enjoyed. 16 is pretty good! The local blessing box sounds like a great idea. I'll go check to see where ours are. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteIt is always fun to have the costumed littles come to the door. I'm glad you had several. Happy November to you!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Ellen :) Happy November!
DeleteHalloween has changed in the last few years as you point out. Costumes are more elaborate and tend to be commercially made.
ReplyDeleteVery true but the little one wearing her regular clothes and Halloween headband seemed to be having as much fun as everyone else.
DeleteWe had none. But we never do have any. Those are some mighty happy birds. You only live once, enjoy the candy.
ReplyDeleteFriends said the same thing. I am taking your advice and heading for the candy bowl ;)
DeleteFun
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine :)
DeleteHappy Saturday
ReplyDeleteAnd a Happy Saturday to you too Regine :)
DeleteNice that the birds got extra seed and fresh water and you had nice polite trick or treaters!! Sounds wonderful all around. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a very good day Rita, I hope you had the same :)
DeleteGood one with the birds :-D
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have any. It was popular in the late 80s early 90s but not so much now!
Thank you Ananka, glad you enjoyed my little bit of whimsy :) Hubby asked me if they were celebrating it over your way. I told him I didn't think so but wasn't sure. I'll have to tell him what you said.
DeleteLovely posy Denise.
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday and Happy First of November.
All the best Jan
Thank you Jan, I appreciate that and wish you all good things in November :) All the best to you too, Denise
DeleteOnce again your bird chatter is engaging. We escape the Halloween door knocking in our village. My grandsons did some even though I think they are a bit old to be doing it. Must admit the eldest one just went for outing with his friend.
ReplyDeleteThat's great, thank you Diane. I am just amazed at how quickly your grandsons have grown :)
DeleteTen un lindo mes. Lindo cuento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDelete¡Muchas gracias! Me alegra que te haya gustado mi historia. Te deseo un feliz mes y te mando un beso.
