"People who think life must get boring with age, clearly have not experienced the joy of watching the bird feeder while taking that first sip of coffee in the morning"
My imaginary cats agree with me.
I hope this gave you a smile too.
I added the cats because I love cats, though I have not had one since childhood, and there are none in the house. Hubs is a dog person (I love them too) but at this stage of the game, that won't be happening either. He sees me hobbling around and says, "Nuh-uh" and words to that effect. He gets a scrunched-up nose and eyes rolled to the ceiling from me (hello Dad), but he's right and I content myself with doggy fixes when we are out and about.
In the picture I gave myself a pair of dangly earrings because I love earrings and dangly ones especially, since teen-hood. My father couldn't stand mine, he thought they weren't ladylike (this is going back 60 plus years). He was an old lovable post-era Victorian man, what can I say? But could that man laugh, he would laugh until he had us all laughing with one of his funny stories, and tears ran down our cheeks, salt of the earth. Mum didn't like dangly ones either, but I used to ogle the Indian shop window on my way home from school and look at all that exotic jewelry on display in the window. Absolutely loved what I saw but never could afford as the price was way above what I could save with my pocket money. Hints for Christmas were ignored, and I continued to get my Bunty and Judy annuals, and I think Rupert the Bear was in there somewhere, another book I favored. No, I'm not knocking books, as they were my all-time favorite Christmas gifts and reading them on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, after our festivities had ended, was a real treat and I always looked forward to them.
We were talking about earrings weren't we? The saga continues! At the age of 50 mum finally had her ears pierced, also my sister. They went to a jeweler to get them done, not at the same time. I think mother saw sister's newly pierced ears and followed soon after. My dad was not a happy man. I can still see him scrunching up his nose in disgust and rolling his eyes to the ceiling. No, I don't have pierced ears. Whether it was my dad's influence or not, the infections both my sister and mother had from theirs (sorry for that image) put me right off! They did all the right things, but they had a terrible time. I couldn't stand the thought of having holes in my ears after that. And as for dad I think there was a 'told you so' in there somewhere, and he and I nodded at each other sagely as we scrunched our noses and rolled our eyes up to the ceiling. He put up with my dangly earrings after that.
So, the birds and feeder are a given and when I saw the saying online, I thought it was perfect. I added the flower myself and I love hearts, so that had to go on the flowerpot.
Coffee is my favorite drink first thing in the morning. I drink green tea in the afternoon, with a cup of chamomile infused with vanilla and honey in the evening (no caffeine that late in the day). I haven't had a proper cuppa in a while, it's overdue. Maybe tomorrow!
The birds are slowly coming back and so have the squirrels (and chipmunks). One of those naughty squirrels has been eating the leaves off my mums (flowers), but they are looking a bit past it now the colder weather is arriving at night. I have truly enjoyed them though.
Enough of the blathering, as I wanted to tell you I am taking a blog break. Nothing too exciting, just things I have to take care of. I am not sure how long for, a few days, a week or two, I'm not really sure. I know I am going to miss you all, but I need to make a clean break. I'll be catching up with you when I get back.
For those of you who are having life challenges, whether it's a loved one's health or your own, know that you are never very far from my thoughts and I am sending all the prayers I can muster. I love you all and am sending hugs.
Thanks for always being there for me,
and have a continued outstanding October.

Sending you much love ❤️ and warm hugs. Take good care of yourself, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you too dear friend :) and I wish you the same.

ReplyDeleteThank you Angie, that’s a lovely way of looking at life :)
DeleteOh my, I do hope you just have to get some things done, and that you are not unwell!! Be that as it may, I will really miss you. I loved reading your family stories, especially about the ill-fated ear piercings! My ears are not pierced either! Do you wear clip-ons, or nothing? I love seeing you at the table with cats and coffee watching the birds!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ginny, I appreciate that. I missed you too but am back now and trying to slowly catch up. Glad you enjoyed my memories. I do wear clip-ons but not all the time.
DeleteI wish you a good blog break and hope you can accomplish everything you've set out to do!

DeleteI hope you have a good blog break. I will miss you but we all need to step aways sometimes.
ReplyDeleteMy dad never objected to earrings but I tried to wear culottes to church one time and he told me we were not going to a fashion show this was church and I needed to wear something appropriate.
Thank you Ann, that’s very true :) I missed you too and am glad to be back and catching up. Thank you for telling me about your culottes story. It gave me a smile. Dad didn’t exactly approve of my mini skirts, lol!
DeleteI think you are sneaking off to have your ears pierced, Denise, and will return with a new picture with sparkling, dangly baubles pulling down in your lobes! We will all look forward to your return.
ReplyDeleteNow that made me laugh David. I am back and ears are untouched :)Thank you also for your kind words. I very much appreciated them.
DeleteEnjoy your break Denise. I will miss you <3 See you when you get back online :-D
ReplyDeleteI don't have my ears pierced and I will let my daughter decide if she wants them done!
Cats are the best. I love them so much :-D
I was off coffee for a while and recently went back to it. I drink lots of green tea too and love a good herbal tea at night.
Take care and see you soon x
Thank you Ananka, I appreciate that very much. As for your daughter and getting her ears done, you are a wonderful mum and very wise :) cats are fun aren’t they and great at keeping us entertained? Your hot drinks sound very much like mine. Just made myself a cup of camomile. You take care too and it’s great visiting you again :)
DeleteI hope you'll return and that illness isn't the reason for the break. Enjoy whatever you can.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your concern Boud, very much appreciated. All’s well and it’s good to be back.
DeleteBig smile.
ReplyDeleteAt the age of 56 I still have not had my ears pierced!
Now that made me smile, thanks Sandi :)
DeleteEnjoy your blog break and I hope whatever you have to take care of is not too arduous. Relax, enjoy the wildlife, and know that we will be here whenever you are able to return.
ReplyDeleteThank you Janice, it’s good to be back :) sweet words and much appreciated.
DeleteEnjoy your time and thanks for your continued good thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThank you my dear friend, and you will always have them :)
DeleteThat was a pleasant sort of read. I hope the break works for you. Earrings are a thing. And nails, both toes and fingers. I don’t get it, but it is what it is.
ReplyDeleteThanks AC, all good but glad to be back, and it most definitely is what it is. Love how you put it :)
DeleteI hope your break is just because you are very busy (fall always is) or are planning something fun, and nothing serious or health-related for you and yours. This was a charming post. We'll eagerly await your return!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your concern Jeanie, all’s well and I am back now :) Very happy you enjoyed this post. Sometimes when I start these things, I don’t know where or how they are going to end up.
DeleteI'm going to miss you.
ReplyDeleteSo very sweet of you to say Sandra, I appreciate that very much. Thank you!
Deletei hope this is a break you can enjoy. take care and don't come back until all is well!! you will be missed!!
ReplyDeleteAll’s well thank you Debbie. Good to be back and will be visiting again soon. I appreciate your sweet words :)
DeleteA blog holiday is good for recharging your energy.
ReplyDeleteAs to pierced earrings, my sister pierced my ears when I was of college age, using ice and a needle. My mother got her ears pierced when she was in her 60s. I have the gold earrings I gave her one Christmas when that's what she wanted as a gift.
Enjoy your time off.
It is indeed Marcia :) Thank you for sharing your story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks again and it is good to be back.
DeleteEnjoy your blog break!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly Anne :)
DeleteTake good care of yourself and see you when you get back. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rita, I am back now :)
DeleteDenise thank you for this lovely and fun post. OM do I recall and ID with you and your Dad info. Daddy did n't like my music, was very peculiar about what I could and could not do on Sundays. NEVER was I to sew until I had a big project due in home ec. I won a prize for the outfit so it worked out and Daddy was absolutely sure I only used ketchup because my friends did. I Dearly love ketchup. He was raised during depression not many condiments were available.
ReplyDeleteHugs and take care and may you and Gregg have a lovely break.
Cecilia
I am happy you enjoyed it Cecilia, and thank you for sharing yours. So interesting and I always think because we were girls maybe they were extra protective. My parents had to deal with rationing and they were very frugal for many years. I still carry that with me in some areas of my own life. Thanks for the lovely welcome back and you enjoy what’s left of this week. Hugs, Denise
DeleteThanks for letting us know.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Christine, all back now :)
DeleteI love all your last graphics, always great as is the black cat. it is good to take a break and catch up with whatever you need to do, and I understand the clean break thing.
ReplyDeleteI know you care about me as you have let me know many times. Enjoy your break and getter done, whatever it is... Daddy was like yours. the first thing I did when I got married is go get my ears pierced and get a dog In the House.. he allowed only ONE outside dog, he was not a pet person....
Thanks Sandra, so glad you loved them :) Yes, I definitely do care about you. I know it’s been tough dealing with everything and I wish I could wave a magic wand. I’m glad you did those things when you left home and I know how much you love dogs and they have been a very big part of your life. How’s Beau doing? I will be popping over soon to find out.
DeleteHave a nice break
ReplyDeleteThank you Red :)
DeleteWhat a lovely fun post to let us know you will be having a blog break.
ReplyDeleteYou will be missed.
Sending positive thoughts and very good wishes to you... a big hug too!
All the best Jan
Kind of you to say, thank you Jan, much appreciated. Sending you a big hug and all the best to you too :)
DeleteSe te extrañara. te mando un beso y te doy mis buenos deseos. Cuídate mucho.
ReplyDeleteMuchísimas gracias por tu amable comentario. Lo aprecio mucho :) Te mando un fuerte abrazo y un beso.
DeleteHappy Blogging Break to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ivy, back to normal blogging now :)
DeleteI’ll miss you! You know, I don’t have pierced ears either, and there was a time when everybody had them, but I was leery of infection and I didn’t really care about earrings.
ReplyDeleteSweet of you to say, thank you Linda, very much appreciated :) That’s interesting you don’t have pierced ears also. I am hearing that a lot. I am a little bit miffed that many of the earrings I see are with wires. I wish there would be more of a variety with clip-ons.
DeleteHope that your break is just to recharge and relax, Denise, and not for anything serious like health issues. Take good care and enjoy your time away and look forward to your return in your own time.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dorothy, all is well and I am back to normal blogging :) I appreciate your kind words.
DeleteWhat a wonderful post you have left us with. I've saved it to my favorites folder.
ReplyDeleteI don't have pierced ears either.
Enjoy your break.
That’s great Sandra, I am very happy you like it enough to save :) Thank you, another blogging friend with none-pieced ears. I think we have started a club, lol!
DeleteHave a good blog break, Denise. I enjoyed your "earrings" story, and could relate. My mom pierced my ears at a young age, and Yes, no matter how good you take care of them, they will get infected at times, and that was only early in life when I was a kid. I have not had any trouble since, except one period I didn't wear them that much, so one closed up and had to get it pierced again. And dangling earrings were always my favorite, although as I get older, I only have diamond studs. That is hard to believe you never got your ears pierced since you like dangling earrings so much. Well, have a nice break, Denise, and take care.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Hi Sheri :) thank you, it was a good break. Thank you also for sharing your story. It was fun to read.
