We decided to go to Wendy's yesterday for lunch and ordered the same thing, a baked potato with chives and sour cream and a container of chili. We don't go here that often, but both felt like a change. The food always arrives hot - I'm a stickler for hot. Gregg had his coca-cola and the first thing I do before I leave the house is fill my reusuable bottle of water. I don't like sodas very much, not even the diet ones. Yes, I am rambling and blathering. Enough of that!
On exiting Wendy's parking lot, we came across the Goose Crew walking across the road. It's been said that raccoons are the Canada Geese of the bird world. They are feisty and I love them for it.
I noticed four adults and the rest were very young, and hadn't even developed their adult coloring, though were close to it. I was thinking parents and children but when I saw the fourth adult, Gregg said perhaps two were hatched last year but hadn't left the family yet. It made sense and I will investigate further. Perhaps those of you out there who know of such things can give an anwser?
We had stopped to let them cross as they were definitely not paying attention to us, all except one older goose coming up behind. He wouldn't cross in front of us. Maybe he was making sure his family were over first. It felt like he wasn't going to move until we got out of the way, so we slowly drove by and caught up with the others just as they were about to cross the main road. Fortunately, no traffic was coming either way at the time, but I have seen drivers stop before. I always find them a charming sight.
I adore the Canada Goose, not everyone does but I have always loved being around them and haven't had an opportunity to see them lately, so this was a real treat. The following is a short video I took.
Have a great day and thanks
for stopping by.
Your video is so cute, I love seeing the cute way they walk. And you caught many of them in mid-step in the first photo. We have a lot around here and I do love them!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ginny, they do have a cute gait :) so glad you enjoy them.
DeleteHi Denise, the little ones are so cute and their webbed feet move so fast. I love ❤️ these geese as well and I enjoy watching them. I also love the sounds they make. Thanks for sharing the video as well. Love this, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThat’s great Linda and you are very welcome my dear friend :)
Deletewow so many geese on the street...too dangerous with heavy traffic.
ReplyDeleteI agree Angie! I am always concerned until I see them cross safely :)
DeleteThere’s something so quietly magical about pausing for a goose family crossing the road, especially when the older one seems to be standing guard
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t agree more, thank you Roentare :)
DeleteSomething i have never seen 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Ashok, I am happy to share them with you :)
DeleteThey would be a treat for me too. I am so glad that they crossed safely.
ReplyDeleteMe too, very relieved, though I have to say I have always seen traffic slow down and even stop for them.
DeleteWe have been telling that CANADA rules. Now you have the proof!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to see you so proud of your country David, as you should be :)
DeleteMenudo grupo se ha juntado. Todos en fila siguiendo a su jefe y los coches respetan su paso.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Gracias por tu lindo comentario. ¡Que tengas un muy feliz día! :)
DeleteThank you for the video. It's wonderful to see families of birds crossing the road.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed! It certainly made my day :)
DeleteWe seem to have a surplus of Canada Geese this year with no less than 4 families. Unfortunately, we do not share the same “like” Denise as they leave large droppings along the river walk making it difficult to enjoy a walk.
ReplyDeleteUnderstand as I know they can be messy. Fortunately we rarely have that problem :)
DeleteOh my, don't they look cute crossing the road or trying to. I'd love to see them doing that. Your video is a nice one, Denise...thank you.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly do Margaret :) and you are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed :)
DeleteI think it's fun to watch them. I enjoyed your video.
ReplyDeleteGreat Ann and thank you :)
DeleteLovely geese. The ducks seem happy to see them as well :-D
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the ducks :) thanks Ananka :)
DeleteThere are plenty of them here and they are not averse to being close to humans. Cross them during our morning walks.
ReplyDeleteHow very nice Haddock :) I don’t get to see them as often as I would like.
Deletethe last goose is the 'rear gurad' I think. they are so fun to watch. who knows why they choose to wander in the streets when they can simply lift up and soar where they want to go.... amazing sight
ReplyDeleteHe was a good one too and I think so too :) Thanks Sandra :)
DeleteI enjoy them if I don't have to walk where they have gathered together for any length of time--lol! SO much slimy poo--lol!
ReplyDeleteI know Rita :)
DeleteThose are cute! I think they actually have a plan. One of our Sam's is near a pond, and they try to cross a street to a restaurant and it's trash. At least your Goose Parade was better than the one our Orange Idiot had! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI don’t think I have ever seen them in the trash here, though I can see them being opportunistic feeders, like many birds would be. Yes, they had a lovely parade and for me, always more enjoyable to watch ;)
DeleteGreat pics and video of the geese. However, in a city close to me, there are so many, too many, in fact, flocks of them everywhere. They leave their "calling card" (poop) all over the sidewalks, lawns, etc. Careful you don't slip!
ReplyDeleteI know their numbers can be a problem :)
DeleteAwwww..... how darling!! I loved this story, Denise. Animals make the world a much nicer place. ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat’s great Andrea and thank you. They certainly do :) xoxo
DeleteHaha. Those geese are so cute but I hear they make a mess on the ground with their poop. I like your chili and potato lunch. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gigi, it was excellent :) as for the geese, I know their numbers can be an issue.
DeleteHaha...what an orderly crossing. That was fun to see.
ReplyDeleteHappy you thought so, thank you Ellen :)
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe geese do not seem worried about walking across the streets, I am glad they were safe. Love the photos and video. Take care, have a great day!
No, not worried at all :) and me too on their safety. Thank you Eileen and I wish you the same.
DeleteCanada geese demand our attention. They are fun to watch as they give you the evil eye.
ReplyDeleteThey do indeed Red :)
DeleteI love it when traffic stops for a family!
ReplyDeleteMe too Jeanie, it is joyful to see :)
