Last Monday (1/6/25) was our first significant snowfall of the season. I spent a lot of my time looking at the birds outside. These are photos I took. I have added links to all their names.
The male House Finches were the first to appear after we replenished the birdseed.
This was the first White-throated Sparrow I had seen in a long time.
A Carolina Wren, always a visitor thankfully.
I felt lucky to get a photo of this Red-bellied Woodpecker before he flew out of frame.
A male Northern Cardinal and I think an American Goldfinch.
A Mourning Dove and a House Finch.
A Blue Jay, another regular visitor.
The House Finches and one Dark-eyed Junco looked like they were having a party.
I think this little House Finch was waiting for a spot to open up.
This is where I am ending my post. I hope you enjoyed my little birds enjoying their snow day.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope your day is a great one.
Next best thing to "Saturday At the Birdfeeder!" You know my favorite is the little wren, even though I have been attacked by one! How on earth do you get such sharp clear pics of the birds??
ReplyDeleteThat’s very sweet of you to say Ginny. Thank you very much :) I have a lot of blurry photos I don’t share and I am always wishing for a steadier hand. I am very happy you like these :
DeleteSuch hardy little critters. I would be engrossed in watching them too. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery happy you enjoyed them Sue and they certainly are very hardy. Thank you!
DeleteYou have such a nice variety of birds that show up at your feeders. How fun to watch them all.
ReplyDeleteIt really is, they are very entertaining :) Thanks Ann :)
DeleteLove these bird photos.
ReplyDeleteThe Cardinal looks so pretty in the snow.
The House Finches really do look like they’re partying!
Thank you Veronica Lee, so glad you loved them :)
DeleteSuch pretty birds, and they obviously appreciate the food you put out for them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janice, they do seem to love this birdseed :)
DeleteHello Denise,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all your birds and photos. It looks like your feeder attracts a nice variety of birds. Take care, have a great day!
Thank you Eileen, I very much appreciate that :) happy you enjoyed. You take care and have a great day also.
DeleteThe beautiful birds are certainly enjoying your generous offerings Denise. Great photo and I especially loved the woodpecker in flight!
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha Ellen, I was very happy about that woodpecker :)
DeleteI noticed the bunny's are upright and not down for the count. they look a little cold with the snow on the top. all the birds are just darling. so cute and cuddly looking. the first bird looks a bit scruffy but still adorable...
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra, the little finch did look a bit bedraggled. I think he had been enjoying face planting into the snow, lol! Yes the bunnies were fully protected by the deep snow :)
DeleteDenise, you have a fine flock there!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree Jenn, thank you :)
DeleteSome really great shots, Denise. That woodpecker one is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie, Very much appreciate your comment. I was very happy I was able to photograph that woodpecker.
DeleteThank you for the photo's of the birds. When I lived in a house in "L" a lot of the birds you show here came to the feeder. Now, living in a 5th floor apartment I don't see very many birds. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou appear to have more snow than where I live here in Canada.
You are very welcome and thank you, I enjoy the birds immensely, and I am happy you did too :) We have had a lot more snow this year.
DeleteDenise, when we lived in VA and it was a snow day, I did the same thing. You were able to get some wonderful captures of nearly all the same birds we would see on the VA eastern shore. However, I never was able to get a good woodpecker image, so kudos to you. It is nice to be safe and warm indoors on a snow day, unfortunately here in Nashua, NH, we have not had any measurable ❄️☃️ snow aside from flurries 😟
ReplyDeleteThank you Dorothy, it was a fun photograph day, especially as we were not able to go anywhere :) It looks like you would enjoy a bit more snow. We enjoyed ours but we don’t have to go anywhere and thanks to Gregg, our pantry supplies are well stocked. I remember the days of being stuck in the snow and having to push the car a few times. Fortunately there was always help from strangers.
DeleteI really did enjoy your bird watching on a snow filled day, Denise. Love all the little birds you captured. Hope you are cozy and warm.
ReplyDeleteThat’s great Ellen :) so glad you enjoyed. We are keeping cozy thank you, I hope you are too.
DeleteThe juncoes come out when it's inclement weather or we're about to get nasty weather.
ReplyDeleteThat’s interesting Red. They arrive here when the weather starts to turn cool and leave in the spring :)
DeleteWe have wintery mix storm arriving tomorrow evening into Sat morning.
ReplyDelete2-3" of a mix starting as snow. I filled up my 4 feeders yesterday. I told the birds to pace themselves and share. I would not be out in the midst of freezing rain and snow
Love your snaps
Hugs cecilia
That’s cute Cecilia. The birds seem to pace themselves better than the squirrels around here :) I don’t go out in that kind of weather either. Thank you and I hope you and Bryan are on the mend. Stay cozy and warm. Sending hugs!
DeleteAwesome post!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Anne :)
DeleteHow very enjoyable. We need peaceful interludes like this now, and your photos really are beautiful. Wishing you folks a safe, beautiful weekend with aloha fondly
ReplyDeleteCouldn’t agree with you more Cloudia and a reason I enjoy coming to your blog :) so kind of you my friend, we wish you the same.
DeleteLove seeing your birds, of course. You know names. I do not. LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rita, it’s been a long process but I am getting there :) I still am not too good on bird calls but recognize a few :)
DeleteDear Denise :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasure to see all the many birds that visit your feeder, and the Woodpecker image is a beautiful capture.
All the best
Sonjia.
Thank you Sonjia :) I am very happy you think so. The woodpecker was my favorite, only because he doesn’t hang around too long and it is rare to get a decent photo :) All the best to you too my friend.
DeleteI'm impressed, those birds know they can depend on you when the weather gets bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks Yogi, I think they remember places where they can get a good feed :)
DeleteStunningly beautiful. Love it.

Thank you Regina :)
DeleteAll wonderful pictures. My favorite is the red-bellied woodpecker in flight.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, he was my favorite also :)
DeleteI sure did enjoy seeing the variety of birds that came to visit. You took some great photos. Here in NC I'm hoping to see some snow tomorrow. Have the birdfeeders filled in anticipation :).
ReplyDeleteThank you, very glad you enjoyed :) No doubt your birds will appreciate a good feed also.
DeleteGorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine :)
DeleteSo many wonderful birds
ReplyDeleteThank you Roentare :) we are very fortunate to get such a variety.
DeleteBellos pájaros. Me enamoraron. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDelete¡Eso es maravilloso! Yo también estoy enamorada de mis pájaros. te mando un beso :)
DeleteI am glad that the birds are bringing joy to your life, Denise - and there is never a charge!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that very much David, thank you :) The best of all worlds!
DeleteSo lovely to see the birds and you feeding them. I love the looks of the Northern Cardinal, must be the colour that attracts me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret :) They are a lot of fun, and that Cardinal is a beauty against the snow :)
DeleteWhat a great selection -- those house finches are really adorable, especially. You remind me -- I have one more filling before I need more seed!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanie, it's a never-ending process filling up those feeders :)
DeleteI started filling the birdfeeders around Thanksgiving, they came slowly at first, but they are having a real party now.
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful birds to enjoy. Thank you for sharing your photos, Denise.
