When we went to Walney the other day, we had fun looking at the bird feeders behind the visitor center, and managed to get photos of a Black-capped Chickadee. The other birds proved to be more elusive.
They are non-migratory and are an all-year round visitor.
I was also very happy to see the White-breasted nuthatch.
I have only just learned how to tell a male from a female. The male has a black cap on its head whereas the female's is more gray. If you scroll down the page at this website, you can read more.
Thanks for looking and
Happy Wednesday!
They look so beautiful and elegant!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly do :)
DeleteLovely, lovely birds that I will not see for myself. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Sue, and thank you :)
DeleteThe Nuthatches are so handsome! And I love the way they walk down a tree trunk. We only have the Chickadees part of the year, and they are little acrobats, Jumping and twisting on the tree branches. So cute!
ReplyDeleteA perfect description, I agree with you and I love observing them.
DeleteLovely birds.
ReplyDeleteThey are :) Thank you Anne.
DeletePretty little birds. Your chickadee reminds me of our great tit.
ReplyDeleteI will have to look them up to compare :)
DeleteWonderful birds and the bird feeders, Denise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Ann, often a lot of luck is involved :)

DeleteThose are great captures...I have never managed to get a goid shot of a Black-capped chickadee.
ReplyDeleteThey are hard to photograph I know. A lot of luck was involved here :)
DeleteI will be leading a birding walk on Saturday and expect to be feeding both these species from the hand, Denise. Wanna come?,
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful and how I wish David :)
DeleteBirdwatching is rewarding, and your photos of the Black-capped Chickadee and White-breasted Nuthatch are delightful.
ReplyDeleteInteresting details about their differences, too.
Thanks for sharing and Happy Wednesday to you, Denise.

Thank you Donna, hope your week was excellent. Happy weekend also :)
DeleteI'll see if these Chickadees show up here in Hawaii. So cute!
ReplyDeleteI will have to look at that myself Gigi. I don’t think so but am no expert. They are very cute.
DeleteBoth of those are staples here in South Dakota with the chickadee being my favorite. A have so many great memories of chickadees visiting me while I was all alone in the woods deer hunting in the dead of winter. Not a since sound in the woods but the chirp and scratching sounds of the little chickadee!
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a lovely sound deep in the woods :)
DeleteMany of these little guys have learned to take treats from our hands here. However , the ones in my yard avoid me.
ReplyDeleteThat’s wonderful Red. I have seen photos but never had that experience :)
DeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine, they are :)
DeleteI love these little birds. It’s almost time for me to set up my birdfeeders, so I guess I’ll get some decent bird photos before long.
ReplyDeleteThat’s great! I look forward to seeing your photos
