This morning I was looking for a particular photo and I don't even know how these popped up. One of those times I should have made notes on the steps but forgot. Anyhow, I enjoyed looking at all my posts over the years and thought you might enjoy too. You can enlarge to get a better look.
It rained heavily yesterday but looks pretty decent today. It is going to get up to 53 degrees Fahrenheit. We're off out for a quick trip. Gregg wanted a Bahn Mi sandwich from a favorite Vietnamese shop we know a few miles from here. We have been going there for years, ever since he discovered it on his way home from work in Washington DC (before retirement). There are no seats inside and we always end up having a car picnic. No breakfast today as we slept in, but Bahn Mi sounds wonderful for our first meal of the day.

ReplyDeleteGreat Martha, so glad :) Our Bahn Mi from this shop never disappoints, we loved it! The car ride over there was enjoyable also as it's not as close as some places we go to, but well worth the drive.

ReplyDeleteHi Ginny, I'm glad it has become popular. We certainly have been enjoying them all these years. I got a list of the ingredients for you, and the website of a recipe. I am not sure if it will taste the same because every chef must put their own signature on them :)
Delete2 Tbsp ice water
1 1/2 Tbsp fish sauce
1/2 Tbsp sugar
1/2 Tbsp potato starch
1/2 tsp beef seasoning
1/2 tsp ground white pepper
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 lb 80/20 ground beef
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp distilled white vinegar

I thought ours was made with ground pork. It is served up with lightly pickled vegetables cut into Julienne strips. What I can remember is carrots and white radishes, the long kind not the little round ones. There are also sliced hot pepper slices and whole sprigs of parsley/cilantro(?). You can take the pepper slices out if you don't like them. We always keep them in and they are never too hot. They put it all on a French Roll, which is always super tasty and fresh, and probably influenced from a time the French colonized Vietnam from 1877. Never fails but when we have finished the last bite, we also say I wish I could have another one. There are no tables inside so we have a car picnic and it is always fun.
This was a fun look back...seen lots of things I loved!

DeleteI'm glad it rained for you. We always need more rain in California. A good rain is wonderful. Someone said at the grocery store this morning said it was 11 degrees, so I'm just staying inside today trying to keep warm.

DeleteI have only looked at earlier blog posts a few times and found that many images are missing. That said, reading the text portions was interesting. Nice to see you look-backs, Denise. We returned home from our 3-week road trip this past Wed just in time for an 8-inch snowfall. Sorry we didn't connect on this trip, but perhaps a future one.
