LIGHTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

These photos were actually taken last year, on a drive through one of the neighborhoods that looked really festive as we drove around.  I felt I was too late in the season to share them, so decided to wait until now.

Some people decorated their homes very simply, but beautifully.

Others must have really had a love of lights.  The house below had more moving decorations projected onto their homes, a light show.  It was very effective.

The house below had the Christmas Story leg lamp in the lighted window at the top (on the left).  If you have watched that movie you will know what I am talking about.  Here is the scene.  It was kind of funny but uncomfortable, and I really felt for his wife.  I wondered the story behind this one to tell you the truth, and I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when this one went up in that window.  The other decorations in the yard were very pretty.
We were in a line of cars driving by this house and the next one just up the road.
The people at this house have been decorating for several years and it is always fun to drive by.  We always look forward to this time of the year, and if we have visitors we take them to see it also.
My photos don't do it justice, in fact all these homes have to be seen with one's own eyes to see the full beauty of those lights.
We sent these photos to family in Ireland, and someone said something to the effect that she hoped the planes didn't get confused and try landing on the street.  She has a really wonderful sense of humor and we laughed.  Also our airport is only half an hour away.

More subdued lighting at these houses, beautiful in their simplicity.

I thought more houses were decorated than the year previous to this one, and I am looking forward to going for another drive very soon to see what’s in store for the neighborhoods this time. I hope you have enjoyed these.

  2. Wow.
My personal taste leans towards simplicity but there are some amazing displays.

  3. Wow, these are fabulous! It looks like a wealthy neighborhood, so they could likely decorate however they want. I do love the train; that would be my favorite. Wow, look at those huge nutcrackers! The projected images are all the rage around here. It is hard to get a good picture of them, because they are constantly moving. You did a great job!

  4. I love seeing the homes in our neighbourhood decorated with Christmas lights. They are simple but individual and stand out in the darkness. Thank you for the tour of your area. It's not easy to capture such a blaze of light so well done! Have a lovely week!

    1. Tak, my sami dekorujemy znacznie prościej, ale dzieci wydają się bardzo podekscytowane widząc tak wiele świateł :) Życzymy udanego weekendu.

  6. Very nice, Denise. I wish our neighbours would take the trouble to illuminate their properties. I can't recall the last time I saw a house lit up. OK, I know I should set an example but it would be an impossible task for little me.

    1. Thank you Valerie :) I have seen people advertising to come out and do our houses, but we decorate much more simply.

  7. Not much activity around my village. Those homes in your area do go all out, don't they!

    1. They really do Gigi, I often used to think that people with small children decorated only, but I suspect the adults of some of these homes get a lot of enjoyment out of the festivities. One neighbor does it and all of a sudden we have a whole row of neighbors joining in. Not on our street I hesitate to say :) A few lights, wreathes on the door and that's a bout it.

  8. Oh my gosh, these decorated homes are absolutely stunning, each one lovely in its own way. The leg lamp in the window pays homage to one of the best Christmas movies ever made. Some clever producers actually made a live play out of the movie and it, too, was wonderfully heart-warming and funny with the lamp playing a prominent role.

  11. Some people really spend time and effort to decorate. They have to think ahead to get the look they want rather than just throw up lights all over the place. Good photos.

  14. Thanks for showing some really colorful displays, Denise. We really haven't seen very many in this neighborhood, but I'm sure there are areas of Nashua that are just as colorful as those in your neighborhood. And, you are right that it's hard to show them in a photo as they are better seen in person.

  17. We always have enjoyed Christmas light tours, but have always done them very near The Day, so it is hard to blog about them in real time. When our children were small, it was a Christmas tradition... we would drive around oohing and aahing until they fell asleep. We’d carry them in and then once they went back to sleep, stay up most of the rest of the night playing Santa
