You've got that RIGHT! We are birdwatchers, and have to be totally quiet, else they won't come near. Wonderful picture! They are bold birds for sure. One attacked me once.
Hi Denise: I hate to be the spoiler in this, but the picture is of a Grey (Gray for you) Catbird, not a Northern Mockingbird. They are in the same family (Mockingbirds and Thrashers), but it is a completely different species. It too has a beautiful song, is an accomplished mimic and ends with the characteristic miaow from which it gets its name. I love the quote at the end of your post - so true! Enjoy the weekend. David
Thank you David, funnily enough I was starting to think along the same lines as I was looking at my photograph long and hard this morning. I really do need to put my glasses on, lol!
I am laughing at the quote. in 2005, I got my big girl DSLR camera and the friend at work that had one and talked me into getting one, was the friend we went to the parks like you do every week end. I took 400 to 600 photos every time we went out... many of them identical. I looked down, she looked up because she is a birdwatcher like you. I said Diane, I don't ever see birds... she said you talk to much, you have to be quiet and make like a tree to see the birds.... which is what your quote says
I am sitting here laughing at Sandra...did you see her post that time about the way she is always talking...I forget who said what, but one person said it was good she didn't work outside cause her tongue would have a sunburn! I sometimes go to her blog just to look back at the funny stuff...and she and Bob have coversations about like Roger and I used to, only she remembered hers and I would always forget part of ours. If you go here you can read the one I am talking about.
Thank you for the link Rose and please feel free to always go off topic. I had never read this post before and I had a great time reading it. Sandra is such a hoot and her humor gives me a lift in the day. I am going to have to start looking back through her blog.
Hello Denise!:) Please forgive my tardy visit. I first noticed a Grey Catbird on the lovely Theresa's blog, "Run around ranch" and I fell in love with it then, and it's always a pleasure to see one. Lovely quote, and silence is indeed golden when bird watching, and you can listen more readily to the birds singing. Have a good week!:)
Understand perfectly Breathtaking, I sometimes drift away from blogging friends because of time constraints, but always am happy to reconnect. I appreciate your visit any time. Thank you for stopping by and have a great week :)
Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.
I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I won't be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name please, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!
Ooohh, lovely quote! And bird, too!

DeleteVery true statement, I like this.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one isn't it? I go through a lot before finding one that 'speaks to me' :)
DeleteRobert Lynd got that right! Love the picture, I don't think I've ever seen a mockingbird in real life.
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie :) They use to come to the garden but I only see them when I go out and about now.

ReplyDeleteI am laughing too Sandra. I am always telling Gregg we have to sit for a while and be very quiet, because we're both always talking and walking ;)
DeleteGreat bird shot!
ReplyDeleteThank you william :)
DeleteGreat quote. The few times that I have been patient and quiet I have been rewarded but usually I am on way somewhere and don't want to wait.
ReplyDeleteI loved the quote too. I have the patience to wait but sometimes it's just finding the time. I guess we have to make the time :)
Deletethis is beautiful, similar to mine in background and light!! being quiet, so hard for me!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie, and I thought the same of your photos too. I agree, being quiet can be hard at times.
DeleteCute catbird.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too but he didn't want to hang around too long so I was glad to get a photo.
