Sunday: 8-9-16 - 2.23 p.m. I thought I would jot a few things down. I slept late as my owl personality gave me a sleepless night. The dear picked up a coffee for me - venti hot no foam vanilla latte. My weekly treat, plus a doughnut from the supermarket next door for both of us. I usually get a sugar glazed sour cream doughnut but they were sold out. We both had a powdered strawberry jam-filled and I wasn’t moaning. If you have a doughnut, what is your favorite?
He met new neighbors, a young couple and their little boy, and their pretty dog. They were walking around the neighborhood. He was out watering the garden. Nice, friendly people who shouted hello from across the road and walked on over, happily introducing themselves. Retirees sold their home and this couple bought it. They are the third new home owners near us, the others having retired too. The new cycle is starting. We have been wondering about downsizing, thinking about somewhere on one level. Nothing serious, just thinking out loud but will probably address the thought again in a year or so.
It has been too hot for me to do any weeding. Need to get out there soon.
A treat this morning was a goldfinch landing on the bird bath. Hurray to that! No photo but when I check my app, hopefully he will be on it. A Carolina Wren who did not go anywhere near, landed on the arm of one of our outdoor chairs. By the time I got my camera positioned, he flew away. I need the patience of a saint! Fortunately, he came back and rested on the top of the bench table for a while, where I happily took lots of photos. In this one I noticed he had a cobweb caught on the end of its tail. I can barely make it out.
It's a bright sunny day - current temperature at 2.25 p.m. - 90 degrees F. (32 degrees C.)

We share the same strange sleep pattern.
ReplyDeleteHello there kindred spirit :)
DeleteI do see a thin thread of spider silk on his tail! Wonder if he was using spider webs to line the nest? You have a two story house? I have not been able to do any steps in years. The cloud is frightening!!
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting idea Ginny. Yes it's a two story house. When we moved here we looked all over the place for a single story like the one we lived in before when moved to Virginia. At the time there were none available, very few single stories in our area. Now what I would give for a single story :)
DeleteThose mushroom are rather clean on top and look good.
ReplyDeleteAlways a good idea to think ahead regarding a flat block/house, ours in like that to a degree with just 5 steps to the front door and a very small ramp at the back door.
Those skies look amazing.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't sleep well at all. I'm very lucky, I sleep like a log.
I didn't see them a couple of days before. I think the rain worked their magic :) I was lucky enough to see them brand new.
DeleteIt’s lovely to see the wren at your place—and we don't eat donuts!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful black-and-white photos. Good neighbors are such a wonderful thing... we moved two years ago too, because of the stairs, and I’m glad to be living on the ground floor now. As for sleep—oh yes, that’s a struggle for us too; we’re up at 5 or usually 6 a.m. Oh, how I wish we could sleep in a bit longer.
What a dramatic photo of the clouds! And those mushrooms look so cute.
It’s getting cooler where you are, while it’s getting hotter here...
Have a great day. Hugs, Elke
Thank you Elke :) we are happy for the new neighbors. They seem very friendly. I would be happy not to have stairs at this stage of my life. I have never been a good sleeper, even in childhood. The clouds were exceptional that day, and I was lucky that we drove by the mushrooms at that time. I hope it gets cooler for you. I just checked, it is 83 degs. F. / 28 degs. C. right now. You have a great day also. Hugs, Denise
DeleteEnjoyed all the pictures. Same thing happened in my neighborhood.peeople retired, moved and younger couples moved in. My neighborhood is not very friendly now though. Everyone keeps to themselves
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann and yes, it seems to be the natural order of things :)
DeleteWe had one of those downpours last night including a few moments of hail.
ReplyDeleteI quite like a downpour, just as long as it doesn't hang around too long. I hope the hail didn't do any damage :)
DeleteGreat photos Denise. Loving those mushrooms :-D
ReplyDeleteThank you Ananka. I did too :)
DeleteWhat a charming day. I definitely love a powdered strawberry filled donut! And that bird is so cute. I hope you have a lovely week :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful and thank you Natalie, so kind of you. I hope you have a lovely week also :)
DeleteThe cloud in your first photograph is astonishing - it looks almost solid!
ReplyDeleteI like the water sprinkler. It's nice when new people move in, I think, especially if they're younger and have children. I wouldn't like to live entirely with one age group.
We have been having amazing cloud action lately. They fascinate me. I agree, it's nice to have a mixture of ages for neighbors :)
DeleteDenise what an breathtaking cloud formation...wow
ReplyDeleteHugs cecilia
It was amazing. We didn't get the whole of it either, even more so :) Thanks Cecilia, hugs, Denise
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteLove your cute wren photo. We had some nice rain storms too, the rain is needed. I've been seeing the mushrooms here too. Take care, have a great day!
Thank you Eileen, she was very cute. Rain is like liquid sunshine and am always happy for the farmers especially. Enjoy your rain, looks very sunny out there right now. You take care and have a great day also :)
DeleteHow lovely that your new neighbors are cheerful and friendly. I love that. Haha it is so true that I rejoice when God does the watering! Hmm...I would choose a maple bar for my doughnut today. Tomorrow might be something different. :) Have a lovely afternoon.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed Ellen, thank you :) Glad you enjoy the Rain Maker :) It's nice to have a day without watering. Yum on your maple bar. I will have to see if they have those. I go all week being good, on a Saturday is a treat day. Enjoy the one you may have tomorrow and you have a lovely afternoon also :)
DeleteHappy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteAnd to you also Christine, thank you :)
DeleteI like one level ranches. Those are groovy. Great black and white shots. Not sure on the 🍩 doughnut. Maybe raspberry-filled. Though back in the day, I enjoy pink doughnuts with jimmies.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ivy, so do I. Glad you like these black and white photos. I'm enjoying them too. Hubs has been enjoying taking them. Raspberry filled sounds delicious. I remember my family back in the day liking the one and only choice we ever had in the bakery shop, but it wasn't called a doughnut. Can't remember what it was called now. It reminds me of the German doughnut, the Berliner I think it was called. We'll have to ask our German friends :) I have seen those pink doughnuts here but never had one. I always make a bee-line for my favorite, lol!
DeleteI love when it rains and I don't have to water, especially now that watering has become a daily chore. :) My favorite donut, well, it's hard to pick just 1. Maybe chocolate with chocolate frosting or a good jelly donut. Hope it was a super Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI know, it's nice isn't it? I'm getting hungry for a doughnut, especially those with chocolate on them. I hope I can last until Saturday, lol! It was a super Tuesday thank you Erika, hope yours was too :)
DeleteI do like the black and white photographs.
ReplyDeleteWe need rain in many areas of the UK, I think many of us will rejoice when we get some!
I've not had a donut in ages ... I think a jam donut was the last one I enjoyed.
All the best Jan
They're lovely aren't they Jan? I'm getting a new appreciation of them. Jam ones are winners :) All the best, Denise
DeleteMe gusto el pajarito. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteMuchas gracias; sin duda era un pajarito encantador. Te mando un beso.
DeleteI love the choice of black and white for the photos
ReplyDeleteMy dear husband is going to be so happy about that. I think it will be a while before he changes back to color somehow. Thank you Ruby Rose and family :)
DeleteIf I had to choose a donut, it would be raspberry.
ReplyDeleteRetired or not it would be lovely to have some rain for the garden here.
I agree on both your points Beverley :)
