A TOUCH OF NOSTALGIA FROM 1984

Nature Boy

There was a boy...
A very strange, enchanted boy.
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea.
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he,
And then one day,
One magic day he passed my way,
And while we spoke of many things,
Fools and Kings,
This he said to me,
The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return.

This photo is of our son when we were visiting family in England in the summer of 1984. He was six years old, and we were in the Malvern Hills of Worcestershire. I orchestrated the photo a little. You can barely see the tiny Star Wars figure clutched in his left hand. I was trying to get him and the wildflowers in the same photo, but he was more interested in running around playing Star Wars. (Mentioning the movie in my missives the other day, I think it jogged my memory and I searched out this picture.) When I asked him to look at the flowers he stopped for a couple of seconds, I took my photo quickly, and off he went running. He was happy and so was I. I got this photo.

    1. It seems like yesterday, and I am very nostalgic for that memory. An interesting coincidence about the song. It is a classic.

    1. Thank you Ann, very much so. We were trying to remember when we bought that Star Wars toy. It wasn’t until many years later that he saw any of the movies :)

  6. Somehow the eighties seems quite recent but it’s already over forty years ago. By my reckoning your son is now fifty years old - I think you know you’re getting old when your kids turn fifty!

  10. Ahh...that is a great photo you captured of your son. Sweet memory! Our second born son carried star wars metal figurines in his pocket and he clutched them a lot, too.

  15. Sweet photo! I googled that song. Didn't think I knew it, but as soon as they started to sing I remembered hearing it before somewhere, sometime. A haunting song. :)

  16. This is beautiful, Denise. I will share it with my son. He sometimes sends me Bible verses just when I need them. The photo you shared is precious too. What a wonderful picture of your son. We have so many memories of their days of youth, don't we? Thank you for sharing. I loved every bit of it. : )
