William Cullen Bryant (November 3, 1794 to June 12th, 1878) was an American romantic poet, journalist and long-time editor of the New York Evening Post. Born in Massachusetts, he started his career as a lawyer but showed an interest in poetry early in his life.
In 1825, Bryant relocated to New York City where he became an editor of two major newspapers. He also emerged as one of the most significant poets in early literary America and has been grouped among the fireside poets for his accessible and popular poetry.
Definitely one of my favourite seasons.
ReplyDeleteA kindred spirit, thanks Sue :)
DeleteNice saying, Denise.
ReplyDeleteHappy you liked it Margaret, thank you :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful quote that is.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, thanks Ann :)
DeleteIt was interesting to read about the fireside poets.
ReplyDeleteI thank you Janice, I thought so too :)
DeleteI vaguely knew of the Fireside Poets, but not much detail. As a child I devoured Longfellow. Sadly, I hardly read poetry any more. I should make the effort.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your thoughts David, thank you :)
DeleteNot sure if it's the lovliest smile....but great all the same.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, thank you Angie :)
DeleteThat's a wonderful quote!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie, I enjoyed it also :)
Deleteuntil blogging friends came along, I never read a poem that I was not forced to read by a teacher, and the names are vaguely in my head of some of these poets, the only one I really remember was Shakespeare because my English teachers all loved him.. I did check out the link and do remember some of the names but not their poetry.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this Sandra and knowing that poetry isn’t your thing, makes me more appreciative of you leaving a comment here. I have always loved reading poetry. I love reading quotes. They are most often a reminder for me of what is really important in life.
DeleteLovely
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine :)
DeleteThank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteThank you Rose, I agree :)
DeleteI did not know any of this about him. Imagine that, a lawyer! and a romantic as well! And I'm thinking it was kind of brave to quit such a lucrative career and try a literary career.
ReplyDeleteI know, I have never heard of that and yes, very brave. Thanks Ginny :)
DeleteYou find some very interesting poets along the way to your quotes. this is the first time I've heard of Bryant.
ReplyDeleteIt’s the fun part, coming across a quote that I enjoy, wanting to share, and finding out about the person who wrote it. I love that! Thanks Red :)
