We are looking for a few pieces of garden furniture to put on the deck. Although we were actually in the market for a few flowers, these caught my eye. Good marketing on the garden center's part, they were right there before the flowers. My dear other half sat down in one and said these are going to be very hard to get out of. I could not deny he had a point but I hopefully said, "Nice thick cushions?" No, I don't think so. Onwards, but first...

AT THE GARDEN CENTER
this was a very cute water fountain between those bright yellow chairs. In my mind's eye I could see the fountain of water shooting up and happy little birds enjoying themselves but no and again, onwards. A close-up of those pretty pots behind the chairs. I like those very much but right now we are concentrating on filling the pots we have and looking for flowers. Nice to see though.
These photos were more of the Talavera pieces I didn't share the other day.
In the middle of the next collage are the birds I shared but more of a close up. I saw a description this time identifying the larger one as Mother Dodo Bird. The smaller one was supposed to be its offspring presumably.
Aren't these white flowers pretty? The name on the label was Andromeda Scar O'hara Mar., 3G 15 - 18", but the following is from my 'Picture This' plant app.
They are called Japanese pieris, also known as Japanese andromeda, Lily of the valley bush, Andromeda japonica, Fetterbush, Mountain fire and Dwarf lily-of-the-valley shrub. Its botanical name is Pieris japonica. This is an evergreen shrub that produces chains of small flowers. So pretty to look at but I am always surprised at the toxicity of various flowers and plants. This one can cause seizures and temporary blindness if consumed by animals or people! An interesting story about its name is that the genus name Pieris, derives from Piera in Greek. According to Greek mythology, which is a subject I have always been interested in, Piera is the home of the Muses. This is enough to demonstrate how beautiful the plant is. Its foliage changes colors throughout the seasons and dangling clusters of colorful flower buds appear in late summer or fall. This plant originates from Japan which is why it is called Japanese pieris.
These were very interesting also. I don't remember seeing anything like these before. I am in the shade area. Most of the plants I'm buying will be shade plants. Epimedium 'Amber Queen' - Fairy Wings according to the sign below.
Next are Green and gold, also known as Golden Star, Golden Knee, Allen bush and Superstar. Botanical name Chrysogonum virginianum, a low growing perennial. We bought two and want to add one each to the larger planters we purchased last year. Commonly found in woodland areas of eastern North America. It makes a great ground cover in shady areas, and prefers partial to full shade. It blooms in spring and summer.
and last photo for today is a tulip planter filled with Penny Peach Jump Ups. A delightful color combination.
I will have more photos to share another time.

Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.
I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I won't be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name please, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!
The planter and cute Jump-Ups are gorgeous and adorable!! I, also, would never be able to get out of those chairs. But they are gorgeous. I can't even get out of a lot of regular chairs now, and have to carry a cushion around. Your photo of the pots in different shades of blue...they have a lot of those around here as well. They are very popular.
ReplyDeleteEverything you said is so true! I think I have talked myself out of buying them for seating that is more comfortable :) I loved those pots!
DeleteWow, I was able to comment! I guess the glitch was only temporary!
ReplyDeletePhew! I am very glad that glitch moved out :)
DeleteSitting out in the garden will be a pleasure as the days get warmer. It's almost time to put out our table and chairs in the garden. Your sitting out area will be a pretty one as you get ideas during your garden centre visit.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I look forward to doing that :) Thank you Linda and yes, it's fun looking at the ideas seen at the garden center.
DeleteI would be very, very tempted (and easily sidetracked) in that store.
ReplyDeleteI always am and could spend much longer there for sure :)
DeleteThose yellow chairs look so inviting, but then I remembered - yellow attracts wasps!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Pieris was toxic - we have a couple in the back garden and I love them, always interesting all year round.
Don't they? And I'm glad you told me that, thank you :) Something I did not know about the color yellow! I am always amazed at the toxicity of plants.
DeleteI love everything there. I've always liked Adirondack chairs but after buying some inexpensive plastic kind I decided they really aren't all that comfortable. And like your husband said, they're hard to get out of. Love the yellow color though.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned yours Ann, I am looking around for more comfortable ones now :) Thank you!
DeleteI love the yellow chairs...maybe get a spring cushion for hubs? lolol
ReplyDeleteOh well, hope you find something you both like, soon.
The flowers are all so pretty!
hugs
Donna
Yes, that is an excellent idea :) lol! I'll tell him that, it will give him a chuckle. Thank you Donna and sending hugs.
Deletethe chairs are beautiful, but we did what Ann did, bought two that looked like these and not only could we not get up but cushions did not help with comfort. I think the chairs are for looks only. these are the color of JOY as are all these gorgeous pots.. would love to wander there
ReplyDeleteI am getting all kinds of great tips about those chairs. I didn't even try to sit in them at the garden store. I don't think anyone needed the spectacle of me trying to get out of one, lol! Thanks Sandra!
DeleteI am quite sure that there is a law somewhere that dictates that whenever you enter a garden centre you leave with far more than you had intended to buy. The way that prices are soaring you may have to mortgage the house before going there!
ReplyDeleteYou have a good point there David :)
DeleteSo many cute things! I love that water fountain.
ReplyDeleteThanks Angie, yes it was a lovely fountain :)
DeleteLooks a good place to visit with so many beautiful plants and things to see.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely place Margaret, my favorite by far around here :)
DeleteI am just wild about those yellow chairs but my past experience with Adirondack chairs tells me never to buy them or I will be sitting on the beach forever, since I'll never get out of them!
ReplyDeleteI'm convinced Jeanie, they look wonderful but for practicality we will be buying something more comfortable :)
DeleteLove the yellow chairs and agree they would be difficult to get out of. Oh! those blue pots and colourful flowers. Thanks again for my flower fix.
ReplyDeleteYou are very, very welcome :) I love the blue pots and alas, also the chairs but good sense is prevailing :)
DeleteAll these porcelains really caught my attention
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely aren't they?
DeleteLove all the creative names for the blooms. I agree those chairs are cheery and tempting but although easy in, not so easy out. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Penelope! Yes easy in but... great way of putting it :)
DeleteThe yellow chairs are cute. I love all the decorated pots, they are pretty. Take care, have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Eileen, glad you enjoyed. You take care and have a great day also :)
Deletethe last photo will help make a great day.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more and in my dream-world, it will always be :)
DeleteDenise I too love the happy yellow chairs...and your gardne center is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI espeically enjoyed the colorful pots and posies.
Hugs Cecilia
So glad Cecilia and thank you so much! :)
DeleteThose yellow chairs are delightful. I saw some mint green chairs just like that recently that I liked. There is always something interesting to see at the garden center. The Mexican pots are bright and colorful. The butterfly house is sweet. We were at the park one day, and a butterfly landed right on Nel's hand. It pleased us all.
ReplyDeleteHappy May Denise!
~Sheri
Oh, mint green sounds a wonderful color for these. It always changes there. We passed by yesterday and they already had the classic old truck full of colorful flowers. I'm going to have to go back! How lovely about Nel's butterfly! Such beautiful flutter-bys :) Happy May to you also Sheri!
DeleteA lovely visit. I like the yellow chairs, too bad they wouldn't be suitable.
ReplyDeleteI know but it was lovely to dream for a little while :) Thanks Christine!
DeleteThe yellow Adirondack chairs are lovely and so cheerful, Denise. You undoubtingly have a wonderful garden center. Such a lovely variety of plants, pots and all things garden. Your photos make me want to visit our garden center again. They are under major renovation now and we are hopeful it will give us more variety. Have a happy afternoon, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha Ellen, I will always love those yellow chairs :) Super that you will have a newly renovated garden center to look around. I hope your afternoon was a great one my friend, and that you will have a wonderful week!
DeleteLooks like you found quite a nice assortment of colorful items at the garden center, Denise. Gregg is correct that those chairs are so difficult to get out of as we had some on our patio years ago. We did put cushions on them, but they were still difficult to get up and out.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dorothy and for telling me about your Adirondack chairs. Good tips from you and all my other blogging friends :)
DeleteThose chairs used to seem so comfortable to me, but now I would be afraid I couldn't get out of it if I tried out at some place in public... I love the Talavera pottery pieces. It would be hard to choose just one if I were going to buy one.
ReplyDeleteHi Rose, I think many of us are all in the same boat! :) The Talavera is very pretty isn't it? I may go back and find something on the smaller side to put on a table.
DeleteI love visiting a garden centre but I need strong will power and my purse firmly padlocked away or goodness knows what might jump into my basket/trolley :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the smile, I most definitely know what you mean Beverley :)
