While I am in the middle of putting together my photos from The Suffragist Memorial, I thought I would share this today as it is a continuation of a visit to the gardens. In my previous post from Meadowlark, I mentioned about the blossom petals that had fallen to the ground after their spectacular display. In Japan it has a Japanese name which you can read below in today's second photo after the quote. (These were taken in April 2011.)

SAKURA FUBUKI - CHERRY BLOSSOM BLIZZARD
Flower petals dancing,
I cannot feel cold under this tree,
With cherry blossoms falling
Like snow.
~Kinotsura no Yuki~
When snow blossoms fall, the Japanese phrase for this is "Sakura Fubuki", which translates as "Cherry Blossom Blizzard".
When we were at the end of our walk on this day in April 2011, we came across thousands of petals nestled in amongst the pansies, a veritable carpet of them, and they did indeed look like snow. I wish I had been there to see them fall this time. We have had a few windy days. It must have been an amazing sight.
Thanks for looking everyone and I hope your April is off to a great start.

Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.
I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I won't be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name please, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!
I just love Sakura cherry blossoming. They are such a heavenly colour
ReplyDeleteThey are, absolutely beautiful!
Delete"During World War II, kamikaze pilots also marked their planes with cherry blossoms before embarking on suicide missions. These emblems symbolized dying “like beautiful falling cherry petals for the emperor.” I did a post on this a long time ago and found it is beautifully sad. Your petals are like a beautiful carpet that is growing sweet pansies! I love seeing petals on the ground.
ReplyDeleteThat's very interesting Ginny, a piece of history I did not know about, so much symbolism. Thank you for sharing.

DeleteWhat a beautiful sight the cherry blossoms must have been falling to the ground. When I lived in So Cal, I used to see the purple jacaranda trees with their petals gracing the streets. It was such a pretty sight. The quote you shared is perfect to go with your photos. : )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Oh I can just see them in my mind's eye Sheri. I loved the jacaranda trees when we lived in California :) So glad you liked the quote.
