IT WOULD BE REALLY HARD TO CUT INTO THIS...

and take a slice.  I would not want to spoil perfection.  They are just too perfectly beautiful!  Another form of great art!  Such talented people out there aren't there?

I found them at the Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center at National Harbor in Maryland, in the windows of a bakery inside the hotel.  Gregg and I decided to treat ourselves to a mini road trip before the holidays, our gift to each other for Christmas.  Only 24 miles away and we reveled in the fact that it only took us a short time to drive home.  We have dipped our toes into the waters friends.  It's our first getaway in yonks!

Word of the day: Yonks
Noun: informal - British slang
It means a very long time.

I used to use that expression all the time but it's been years.  It just popped into my head right now.  Next I'll be saying this is the first trip away in a donkey's age (also British slang, and another expression that means the same, and another one I have not used in a very long time) until now.

Anyhow, I would love to look at the names of the customers who order these.  Maybe for a company's party just before everyone breaks up for the Holidays, or who knows?  There wasn't a price showing and I wasn't going to ask.  This old kitty-kat was just a little curious.

Well, my friends, the season is fast moving along.  I took loads of photos to share in future posts, no surprise there.  I will start sharing them the day after Monday's recipe.  Happy Sunday!

    1. Thanks Ginny :) I agree. These are probably just for display purposes, and I don't think they would be sold but ordered, maybe? The expressions used at one time, I wonder if any of us use them quite as often nowadays.

  2. I would find it hard to cut into those beauties too. We grew up with 'not in a donkey's age and yonks too - and it is a very long time since I have heard either. Thank you. And hooray for a mini getaway.

    1. Hello Sue, it's interesting we still use the same expressions even rarely nowadays :)

  4. I wouldn't have a heart to cut the cake LOL...but those cakes (like wedding cakes) usually look beautiful, but not really that tasty...not to mention it's sugar loaded.

  5. The cakes are amazing. I would not want to cut them, they look so pretty.
It feels nice to get out and enjoy different places.
Have a great day and happy new week!

  6. I've heard the donkey's age many times but never heard the word y o n k! There's a word that we use in the South but right now it just will not come to me for a very long time. It is a stunning cake and Jenny guessed it right

    1. Expressions are always interesting depending on what part of the world we're from. Yes, the cake is stunning but edible? If this has been in the window for a while, it's probably just for display. :)

  7. Hi Denise, more British Slang here this morning as its -3 Celsius outside.
"Brass monkeys". Although we wont translate that one here.😇

    1. Hey Roy, great to see you here :) Minus 3? Yikes! Nope, nope, nope, not explaining that one. Wouldn't touch that topic with a barge pole. I haven't heard that one in a very long time either, and thanks for the chuckle.

  11. For those cakes the creativity takes place first and then they have to know how to get it done. They're well done.

    1. It was so much fun Debbie, though I have to be honest I had no clue what to expect with the ICE display and didn't realize it was that theme from the Christmas movie. Because it was the first one I found it all very impressive. Best of all I enjoyed the Nativity Scene at the end, and the huge angel carving. I look forward to another theme next year as I would like to go back. The hotel alone was amazing.

  14. I wonder if things like that ever get eaten. I used to go to the Sugar Art Show here in Tulsa and some of the cakes and stuff were days old.

  17. That is an amazing cake for the holidays!! I used to do a little amateur cake decorating for my children's birthdays, but this is another league of bakers that created this darling snowman! I'm so glad you were able to take a little trip away. We've never been to National Harbor, so I'm excited to see it through your camera lens, Denise. It was fun hearing those British sayings!

    1. That's wonderful Martha Ellen, I would enjoy that. We have been before but just for a walk along the Potomac River. We enjoyed it very much and remember having a meal at one of the many restaurants. The hotel had so much for us to do it was a pleasure staying there. Happy you found those sayings fun :)

  18. So glad you broken out of the shell. I know you're keeping safe. Delightful to see fresh sites isn't it! In my case, the fresh sites come to me by jet. The 50th Honolulu marathon just wrapped up and it's been a pleasure to see the runners all over town. Also. Our Christmas season traffic and buzz seems to be back. No complaints for me! Lockdown was tough for all. I wishing you both a wonderful season and a healthy and bright year ahead

    1. Thank you Cloudia :) Always trying to use our common sense but it felt really good. What fun it must have been to see the marathon take place!!! Glad that things are slowly returning to normal, at least some semblance of normalcy. We both wish you the same sentiments for the season and for the New Year.

  21. Oh my, that cake is spectacular. I wouldn't want to cut into it either. Someone is very talented at cake decorating.
The expression that my mother always used to say was "in a coons age" I haven't heard that one in years.

    1. I thought of you when I saw these cakes Ann :) I bet you could make them no problem! That's a new expression to me too. I started thinking of expressions my parents used to say that I don't hear any more. Language is evolving. We wouldn't have been able to understand English a few hundred years ago. I wonder what it will sound like in another few hundred years?
