I have found such joy in simple things;
A plain, clean room, a nut-brown loaf of bread...A cup of milk, a kettle as it sings,
The shelter of a roof above my head,
And in a leaf-laced square along the floor,
Where yellow sunlight glimmers through a door.I have found such joy in things that fill
My quiet days: a curtain's blowing grace,
A potted plant upon my window sill,
A rose, fresh cut and placed within a vase;
A table cleared, a lamp beside a chair,
And books I long have loved beside me there.
I am in total agreement. The 'little' things are huge in my world.
ReplyDeleteAgree totally too, thank you Sue :)
DeleteI LOVE it!!! And all these things are little things that are really big things to the spirit and heart.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully put Ginny, thank you :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful poem. Joy is always so close. I believe that the reason so many can't find it is because it's in the simple things that we tend to take for granted.
ReplyDeleteI am happy you liked it Ann and yes indeed :)
Deleteevery single one of these fits me and fills me with joy reading the poem and if i see them. one of my most favorite of little things is watching curtains blowing out from the window. the view from my sofa has a palm. the fronds move constanly. I watch them a lot. thank you for this poem

ReplyDeleteHi Mark, I agree, it is a great fireplace, but alas it is not ours. I took this photo many years ago in a very old house we were visiting. I coveted it back then too :)

ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie, I wish it my own glorious creation but it was make-believe, in the kitchen of George Washington's Mount Vernon home :) Gorgeous isn't it?
