Revisiting a previous post sharing one of our favorite places. Sadly, the last time we passed by, the bookstore had permanently closed.
This was our all-time favorite bookstore in Old Town Manassas, not only for the great selection of books they stocked, but for all the wonderful knickknacks filling every corner.
The building is very old and has so much character, from the ceiling tiles to the lighting fixtures, and the tiny rooms that were filled floor to ceiling with yet even more books."Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and caldron bubble."
~From Shakespeare's MacBeth~
"I would like, if I may, to take you on a very strange journey."~The Criminologist, The Rocky Horror Picture Show~
"Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see."~Linda Williams~
"The witches fly across the sky, the owls go, Who? Who? Who? Scary Halloween to you!"
~Nina Willis Walter~
"Don't make me flip my witch stick."~Jay Hawkins~
"The moon has awoken with the sleep of the sun, the light has been broken; the spell has begun."
~Midgard Morningstar~
"Please park your broom at the door."~Author Unknown~
"Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen, voices whisper in the trees, "Tonight is Halloween.""~William Shakespeare, MacBeth~
"From ghoulies and ghosties and long leggety beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!""It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown."
~Lucy Van Pelt~
We will be sharing candy tonight. Because of the Pandemic most people in our neighborhood will be filling a container and leaving it outside on their front step. The children can help themselves and hopefully take only one piece so that others will be able to have their fair share. That's what we will do. Hopefully we won't run out.If you are celebrating Halloween, please have a happy and safe one, and thanks for stopping by.
What a sadness that the bookstore has closed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween to all those who celebrate.
Thank you EC :) We were very sad. It has been our go-to place ever since we moved here almost 30 years ago.
DeleteSo much to see in this book shop. Very sad that it had to close. Be giving us a report on how many Trick-Or-Treaters you got. You may not know though, since you won't be opening the door. This is a good plan!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely zero Ginny. Sadly, no sweet little princesses and pirates came to the door because of the rain. Not sure if there would have been any anyhow with everything as it is. I'm looking forward to coming over to see who had trick-o-treaters last night :)
DeleteThat's such a pity the book shop isn't open any more.
ReplyDeleteLike the photos, they are interesting as always.
Enjoy your evening.
A great pity, thank you Margaret, same to you :)
DeleteSo cute.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rue :) I thought so also.
DeleteHappy Halloween but far less celebrating and festivities this year and sorry to read about the book store closing. It looks like it was a wonderful place to visit. Your quotes were very appropriate too, Denise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dorothy :) glad you enjoyed.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween Denise. Love the book store post and photos. We have not had trick-or-treaters in years, we live in a rural area. Take care, happy weekend!
Thank you Eileen, and how lovely you live out in a rural area. You take care and enjoy your week :)
DeleteI love this book store and all the things inside of it and the rows and rows of books and that light fixture and the ceiling is amazing. Is very sad to me that it's closed and I know that I am a part of why book stores are closed because all I use is my Kindle. That in the pandemic has taken all these beautiful little stores away.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra :) it really was a lovely book store. I still miss it.
DeleteThat book store looks like my kind of place, so sad it closed. I've noticed book stores and privately owned thrift shops have gone out of business around here during the pandemic too. Have a safe and happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha, and thank you :) It's very sad about the shops closing. I remember thinking that when all the new supermarkets started opening up years and years ago. We saw many mom and pop shops close :(
DeleteLibrary was nicely decked out. Great idea for the treats.
ReplyDeleteThank you Gigi :)
DeleteWhat a perfect collection for the special season we are in and so wrong such a bookstore was shutdown. Hope they can revive in another building one day. This is the first Halloween in decades we will not be giving out treats, although your idea is a very good and wise alternative!
ReplyDeleteI hope so too Penelope, thank you :) As it turned out we didn't need any treats.
DeleteThank you Denise for this carefully crafted pleasure!
ReplyDeleteYou are so very welcome Cloudia :)
DeleteHappy Halloween! It's nice that you can leave candy out for trick or treaters!
ReplyDeleteWell, we tried :) Thank you Ellen!
DeleteWhat a great bookstore, so sad. Happy Halloween anyway.
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine, you too :)
DeleteNiezwykłe miejsce pełne niezwykłych książek i bibelotów .
ReplyDeletePiękne fotografie. Miłego dnia:)
Dziękuję bardzo :) Życzę również miłego dnia i życzę udanego tygodnia!
DeleteSo sadly it's a tough time for book stores. I've been patronizing my favorite indie book stores and did some early holiday shopping. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteSo sad I agree. We went to several book stores over the years but one by one they all disappeared. Thanks for visiting Buttercup :)
DeleteHow sad, but you have memories and pics.
ReplyDeleteHappy November!
🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂
Hi BB, so many :) and thank you! Happy November to you also.
DeleteLovely Halloween post.
ReplyDeleteHappy November Wishes.
All the best Jan
Thank you Jan, all the best and Happy Everything :)
Deletegreat collection of bookstore, unfortunately closed due to Covid 19.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween...
# Stay safe, healthy and virus free
Thanks Tanza, and yes isn't that true? Thank you, I wish you the same :)
Deletehope you had a spooky good time
ReplyDeleteA very quiet time for us. Thank you Carol :)
DeleteI can be bribed with chocolate too. I do love Edgar Allen Poe. I'm sorry I wasn't able to visit this post yesterday. It's so Halloween perfect. We didn't have trick or treaters either.
ReplyDeleteAh chocolates! I do like my chocolate but sadly it gives me headaches so I don't eat it but rarely :) I hope you had a Happy Halloween Kay, as quiet as it was, for us too.
DeleteHow sad it has closed down, I love book shops. Halloween does not exist around us, and even if it did normally, it would not have this year! Cheers Diane
ReplyDeleteSo do I Diane, I used to love browsing through them and treating myself occasionally. Lovely places to spend some time. People were getting very inventive here for Halloween while social distancing. I saw plastic tubes all painted up and people from the second floor had it angled enough for the candy to slide down :) I missed seeing the little trick o' treaters this year in their fun costumes.
