STEPPING BACK IN TIME TO JULY 1980, MY SON AND I

I love going through the old photos and am sharing these again.  I scanned them several years ago while looking through one of our many family albums.
This is our son and I back in July 1980. At the time we were living in San Diego and Daddy was away at sea. While our husbands were gone we bonded closely with other wives whose husbands were on the same ship, and often went over to each others houses, sometimes in groups or as on this occasion individually. One lady adored our son, as did her 14 year old daughter who often babysat. In fact, these photos were taken by the daughter and given to me later.  There was also a younger son who often played with him whenever they came to our house or as on this occasion, at theirs.  They were a lovely family.
I really enjoyed my time with them, and was very comfortable knowing they also enjoyed having a little one around. Occasionally I would have to get a babysitter when I visited other wives, but here I knew as active as he was that he was welcome, and he was always included in any invite.
When you are teething I guess anything will do to chew on.
As all parents do when they have children all grown up, I look back at these photos and remember this moment with a big smile.  I have shown these photos to our son several times over the past 40 plus years.  He is coming here in a couple of days.  I will be showing them again, and this time also to our sweet daughter-in-law.

  4. Oh how I loved this, Denise. I was just on the phone talking to my elderly son. Babyhood is so long ago and your post was a reminder of the good old days. Thank you.

  6. Precious Memories! The one I love the most is where you're sitting caulking looking the other way and you've just got your finger hooked in the diaper to keep him from crawling away. I know you love to look at these and remember and I know he enjoys it and I know his wife will too

    1. Thanks Sandra, I remember hooking onto his diaper like it was yesterday. They had a pool that we had all been in before that, and I was so aware because of it being right next to us. I never took my eyes off him, and when I did there was the hooked finger on the diaper move, lol!

  7. I like how you are restraining your son in the second photo. There were good time when groups such as yours were close together socially. There was much support.

  9. Darling pictures and such good memories ... These days I see our daughter playing with *her* grandchildren, and it seems incredible that I can even remember when she and her brothers were that age! But I do! There’s room for old and new memories.

    1. Thanks Ellen, the finger hook was to prevent him from going back to the pool which is where we were not long before these photos :)

  13. I also love to look at my daughter's childhood and baby photos. They bring back to many memories. You are lucky that your son is not living too far away from you - our daughter will be moving to Germany which at the moment appears even further away than usual. I love the photo of you grabbing the diaper of your son!

    1. Hi Carola :) We feel very blessed that he is only a short car ride away. I hope you get to visit your daughter often once the world has calmed down. I have family in Germany also and I miss them.

Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.

I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I won't be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name please, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!
