I am fascinated by the 'bumpy' pumpkins that look like there are peanut shells growing all over them. They are actually called Peanut Pumpkins and have been in France since 1883. They were introduced to the United States commercially in 2010. The bumpy-looking skin appears on the surface of a seemingly regular pumpkin when sugar extrudes through the skin. It begins to crackle and form the peanut shell-like shapes even after the pumpkin has been harvested.
So, no Monday Recipe Post today but here is a video on how to use one of these Peanut Pumpkins. If you can't open the video you can look at it here.
I am supporting the following memes as they become available, with many thanks to all our hosts.

My father grew pumpkins in his front yard, but they were the traditional kind, not peanut pumpkins.

ReplyDeletePretty flowers. I've never seen or heard about those "peanut-shell" pumpkins. How unique!
ReplyDeleteamazing photos dear.
ReplyDeleteloved the doll and peanut pumpkins unique look though
I've never seen a pumpkin like that. The standard New Zealand grey pumpkin is all I see in the markets here. Peanut shells covering a pumpkin would be a real novelty.
ReplyDeleteAh, the treasures of fall. All the colors and shapes of the season are a feast for the eyes! Thanks Denise for joining the party, please plan on stopping back again.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely mix and those peanut type ones are seriously weird.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely bounty!
ReplyDeleteA perfect Autumn posting!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't think they have Peanut Pumpkins up here, in the upper NE. At least, they look new-to-me.
Pumpkins are so expensive here, this year, for some reason. Haven't bought a one. I'd *love* to get a bunch, at half price, after Halloween, and drop them, down by the back fence, where we have trouble growing what we want. Let 'em "do their thing," and spread and produce next year. :-)))))) Probably won't but thinking of it.
Late Autumn Blessings,

Great set of images. Those peanut pumpkins are spectacular.
ReplyDeleteWoW!!! Amazing, healthy and colorful mums for a supermarket!! I have never seen those peanut pumpkins, they are funny looking. I am old fashioned and like the traditional ones best!!
ReplyDeleteHi Denise, thanks for the birthday wishes. My Grandson is sitting here and we have just watched the Youtube clip. We liked the pictures of the pumpkins but he said the doll looks scary. Hope you and Greg are keeping well. Heather is worrying because her sister is having an operation on her spine as I type so takeaway tonight no soup here. XXX Don
