Today I am linking with Tom's Tuesday Treasures, Linda Kay's Wednesday Wit and Wisdom, Jesh's Seasons and Daisy Gurl of Maple Hill Hop. Their links are below this post.
When out and about on Saturday we found several bird houses on top of fence posts, waiting for feathered friends to take up residence.
I would enjoy any of these in my garden.
These brought back memories of my Dad whose hobby was carpentry. He made many wonderful pieces, from something as small as a bird house, to a larger piece of furniture.
Birdhouses in particular always remind me of my Dad. He made several for his garden over the years, usually from any scraps of wood found in his shed. They were also gifted to family and friends, and he often received requests. More than anything he enjoyed the pleasure he saw on people's faces when they were given. There were many of Dad's birdhouses in the gardens of his friends, many around the neighborhood, and when we visited relatives. Dad's signature birdhouses were everywhere.
I know he would have have enjoyed these, especially the one decorated with several old tools. He probably would not have thought of decorating with them though. His tools were too precious to him, but I know he would have enjoyed this particular piece of garden art.
Added note: Marcia from Birds, Blooms, Books, etc thought this last one could be a butterfly house because of the large, narrow slit in the front. Never thought of that Marcia, thanks for the info.
Thank you Tom, Linda Kay, Jesh and Daisy Gurl for hosting these wonderful memes. You can click on the names below to visit other participants.
Thank you for sharing your Dad with us. Such nice photos and fine memories!

ReplyDeletebelos e artísticos ninhos, gostei bastante de ver.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.
Denise ... such a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteThe birdhouses are amazing to look at, there are so many different designs and colours.
I so enjoyed reading about your Dad - memories are so special.
Hope the new week has started well for you.
Take care
All the best Jan
I always wonder if these are really made for birds - or are they made for people! Either way they are fun to see!

My Dad was a carpenter/joiner and he made many things but I don't think he ever made a bird house. I like the ones on this post, Denise, especially the second one. They are all unique, though, unlike the unimaginative ones we get these days.
ReplyDeleteHello Denise, lovely memories of your Dad and the birdhouses are wonderful. They are all so cute! Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day and the week ahead!
ReplyDeleteWhat lucky birds - and I love your memories of your father too.
ReplyDeleteThese bird houses are so cute! It's good to remember our dads... Mine was also good at carpintery...
ReplyDeleteI like birdhouses also especially those made with found materials like your examples.
ReplyDeletei have often wondered why i have never owned a bird house.. you answered that with your post. your dad had birdhouses, so you do to. we never had birdhouses when i was growing up and neither did any of our neighbors... so that answered my question about me. I LOVE THAT house birdhouse in the second shot. would like to own it even just to sit inside my house. work of art to me.. looks so good on the fence. they are all great finds
ReplyDeleteI do love birdhouses!
ReplyDeleteThe residents of these colorful bird houses would be living there in style, Denise. And, yes I can understand how your father would not want to use his tools to decorate one.
ReplyDeleteThose are very neat birdhouses. The last one with the slit may be for butterflies. Over the years I have had quite a collection of birdhouses, inside and out. Only the outside ones remain. Couldn't seek them at auction as I did the inside ones since many of them are occupied each spring.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I have never seen bird houses here in Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteI have a large bird house collection and would love to have some of these. Thanks for sharing your family treasures Denise. Enjoy your week and please stop back again.
ReplyDeleteYou really found the mother lode of birdhouses. What fun. Wonderful story about your dad, too. Visiting from Tuesday Treasures...
ReplyDeleteSome of these people were very creative in what they produced from various scraps.
ReplyDeleteThe one with the tools is my favourite!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful is this! I would love to have these bird houses all round my garden, and it's lovely that seeing them has reminded you of the ones your dad used to make. I don't suppose you managed to get any of his back to your home across the pond..?
ReplyDeleteWith your dad were wonderful birds' houses. :)
ReplyDeleteThese bird houses are treasures - they brought you good memories of your father, too. I love seeing collections of them.
ReplyDeleteHi Denise, What a wonderful colorful set of bird boxes, some of those would take pride of place in any garden. Regards John
ReplyDeleteI love the birdhouses!
ReplyDeleteI love birdhouses! My son made one for me at school.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love these! I need them for my fence!
ReplyDeleteWonderful bird houses. I would have loved these in my garden. Too. Mostly, I have Wren houses. However, my rose bushes and shrubs provide cover for larger birds who like to build in the open.
ReplyDeleteYes, butterfly house, or maybe even a bat house!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Denise - Love the bird houses, and the one you shared with SEASONS and the 2nd one are my favorite! Without fail, children who have an artistic parent think with fondness of their parent's art:) Great to have that visible memory of your dad's passion):) See yu in a few days! Have a happy week:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a whimsical and wonderful post. How fantastic that you have those memories of your dad. I would love for you to share this on The Maple Hill Hop, which showcases outdoor posts.
