A FEW AROUND AND ABOUT PHOTOS.

I thought I would share a few of these. As you know I am an avid taker of photos, which include those from the passenger side of our car. I love to record just about everything. Last week we had amazing skies. Below was from the week before when it was rainier. I was taking our usual photo on the progress of the building when the police officer came into view.

We have been very interested in seeing this large building go up, having driven by the old house for many years. The land was finally sold, the old house leveled (was a bit sad about that - someone's dream way back when) and this structure slowly took shape. They always start with the elevator shafts first don't they? We knew it was going to be a big place noticing how far apart they were.

Monday June 22nd, 2026 - drove to Arlington to our favorite Bahn Mi go-to. We visit about once a month and have a car picnic. We try to curb our eating out to once a week and usually it's fast food. No seating inside here and that’s okay with us. We can watch the world go by. It’s fun to watch people come and go. There is a fire station across the parking lot to the left, and we have watched firefighters trek in every now and again. Nothing fancy but this is Gregg's all-time favorite sandwich, and I have to admit it is excellent. Mentioned before on here many times.

On the way out of the parking lot we spotted this. I believe it's the same vehicle I shared a few weeks ago. It is a Slingshot Grand Touring Le Fairway Green with Bronze Accents - thank you Google!

Our lunch last week took us to our Cornish Pasty shop, also mentioned many times before. We usually pick up British bangers and bacon. Made over here but a UK-style recipe that gives us a touch of nostalgia when we have them on the weekend with a full breakfast. Another place we visit, this time maybe once every three months, try to anyhow. You can just about make out the Union Jack on the left-hand side towards the end of the alleyway.

Another car picnic. Over here Cornish Pasties are like a Michigan Meat Pie. Cornish tin and copper miners emigrated to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan when there was a massive copper and iron boom in that area in the 1840's and 1850's. That's how the Michigan meat pie came about, from the Cornish Pasty. I am repeating myself but the man who owns The Pure Pasty Co. is British and located in Vienna, Virginia. He also owns the Hawk and Griffin which opened several years later. This is where we went for Gregg's birthday earlier in the year. We like both places very much but come here more. The restaurant/pub is our special occasion place. I'm sure with the World Cup going on, the place is packed out.

On our way home we passed by the old mill building I mentioned a little while ago. I was delighted that the paddle wheel was working. We could see the water splashing on the wheel. There was also safety fences built since the last photo. I can only hope that we will see the building itself brought back to life, and I am eager to come back this way to see if there is any progress in a couple of weeks or so.

Here is also another view of the horses but in the nearby field this time. We really should bring a proper camera to get a closer photo. All these were taken with my cell phone.

Coming back into the neighborhood Gregg spotted a crow on the top of a mailbox post. He stopped, backed up without me even asking.

I took several photos before he flew off. These were the best two.

It was a coincidence but that very morning I had found these on Pinterest. I rather like benches as you might guess, from all the ones I sit on when we go to the gardens. My imagination put these on our deck and in the back yard.

Tuesday June 23rd 2026 - I had my hair done today. I go to the Hair Cuttery at our local shopping center. The lady who has been cutting my hair for years did another great job and I always feel much better with it shorter and tidier. It was raining heavily, but the sun is out surprisingly and it looks like we will have a very pretty sunset.

Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 - father and son got  together this morning. I stayed home and enjoyed my quiet time. I caught up on things. I did laundry, a chore that I actually enjoy. The day went fast!

That's all for now.

Thank you for reading my ramblings, and

I hope your day is a great one.

  1. Those bird benches are wonderful and sit beautifully in the parkland. How clever you are taking that close up bird photo with a cell phone. Wish I could do that - the birds here are too quick to take off! I always love to see an old Mill. Great post thank you.

    1. Hello Patricia and thank you. This was one of the very few times I was able to get a photo of any bird who didn’t take off right away, even when hubs backed the car up. I was amazed and delighted. I love the old mills too. Thank you so much :)

    1. I am glad for my eagle-eyed hubby who spotted that crow. We have quite a few in the neighborhood but this is the first time we have come across one sitting on a mailbox post :) Those benches were extraordinary. The old mill has been a favorite of mine for many years.

  6. Photographic and video enthusiasts are a perfect combination to support a true blogger, based on what I believe. However, a blogger can easily turn into a vlogger.

I love taking photos and doing videography at the same time.

    Big hello from Indonesia.

  7. What a delightful post. That slingshot is so awesome looking. I would love a ride in that.
That was so nice of Gregg to back up so you could get the picture of the crow. Those crow benches are amazing. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself.

    1. Thanks Ann. I would take a ride in it but only if it was going ever so slowly, lol! Gregg spots things that I miss and I always appreciate it when he does. I call him Hawkeye :) I loved those crow benches!

  8. That crow is a poser! All your photos are great but the photo of the Cornish pasty made me pause and admire. Yiu know I love them! Wish I had a great hair stylist, I just go to Great Clips and any time I get a good stylist, next time I go, they're no longer there! Oh well, have a nice rest of the week! xx

    1. He certainly is and I love those pasties. Just grateful they are not exactly around the corner so we are not tempted too often :) I used to have that problem with hairstylists and feel very fortunate she has stayed for as long as she has. She is not only great at what she does, she is also very warm and friendly. Thanks Kay, you have a wonderful Friday, and weekend too.

  11. Those crow benches are amazing! I do love that Mill also. We have one that is a hotspot for photographers to visit. It is over an hour's drive away so I only stop by it when I have to drive to the big City.

Oh it would be fun to tool around in that Slingshot. ... maybe.

    1. I love old mills too. This isn’t so far away but don’t take that route all the time. I am very interested in how they will proceed now that I have seen these recent renovations. Love those crow benches too. I don’t think you would get me in one of those slingshots but fun to take photos :)

  15. Oh, my! Those benches. I worked with a woman whose mother was from England. She gave me her mother's pasty recipe. Now I must make them. Do yours have rutabaga in them?

    1. How wonderful Sandra! These pasties look like they have rutabaga in them, though I grew up calling that vegetable suedes (pronounced ‘sweeds’) in the UK.

  17. Hello Denise. Your blog post truly took me on a journey. Horses have always been my mother's favourite animals, and I think that love has been passed on to me as well. To me, they have always represented freedom and a carefree spirit. Can you imagine what it would have been like if we had lived in a time when journeys like yours were made on horseback? I think there would have been something truly magical about it.

  18. That old mill building and the crow bench are really grabbing me. I used to work at a pasty shop here but I was 16 and never learned to make them. I wish I had. THey're pretty big in Michigan.

  21. I like crows too. I love the first bench. Is that beautiful and quality too. The crow on top of the mailbox didn't even look real at first.

  22. Hello, my friend. I absolutely love the benches! I would love to have one painted like that. I love crows! I also think about what you wrote when seeing some building torn down. When I see older houses being torn down to make way for new ones, I get sad, thinking that someone put so much thought and work and love into their dream. Now, it will be gone. And, I hope they had a wonderful life there. Thank you for the lovely post this afternoon!

  23. I especially like the photograph showing the old mill building.

  24. The old mill is full and charm and hopefully will be maintained. How amazing are the benches with crows draped around them. What an absolutely beautiful idea that makes me dream of all the other creatures that could be shown in that same way.

  25. I like car picnics too. The hubby and I do them frequently, but my hubby isn't the most adventurous eater, so your car picnics sound better than mine food wise. :)
