Happy First Day Of October!
My dear other half got his shingles shot after a story our son told him about someone he knows well, who had a bad dose of shingles, so badly that he now has lasting nerve damage and is in constant, permanent pain. Neither of us knew this was a possibility, though we know shingles can get pretty bad and we are at that age where it is recommended to get the shot.
That was enough to spur Gregg on. His doctor told him a while ago that he should get it done.
We went off to our local supermarket pharmacy yesterday. He had his flu and covid shots a couple of weeks ago at his last doctor appointment. I was getting further behind, so today was the day to get mine.
The young lady who gave them was warm and friendly and put us at ease right away, just like the gentleman we saw the last time. She was so gentle we hardly felt anything. I will go back and get my shingles vaccination in a couple of weeks. Gregg also has to go back for another, this particular shot being given in two parts, due to our age we think, though that would be a good question to ask. We have also been told by our doctors to get a tetanus shot. The year is whipping right along, and we are slowly taking care of things.
I hope your week is going well. Thanks for stopping by.
The flowers are beautiful! Our doctor has been telling us for years to get a shingles shot. I have had shingles once, but you can get it multiple times. These flowers are beautiful! What a coincidence, I injured my finger and got a tetanus shot a couple days ago. I have been sick all day. I think maybe a side effect from it. Still better than getting lockjaw.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got your tetanus shot Ginny. Maybe you could have another chat about the shingles shot with your doctor. Gregg had shingles a few years ago and it was not pleasant. He had one a shot aftrwards and did not realize he should get it again. From what I have been reading with everyone's comment, it can be very nasty. I'm so sorry you have been feeling sick all day. I hope you feel 100 percent by tomorrow. Yes, better than getting lockjaw! I guess I will be getting the shingles and the tetanus in the next month or so.
DeleteIt's good that such vaccinations exist; I should get a booster shot too.
ReplyDeleteWow, so many pumpkins, they look so beautiful! I love pumpkin season! Happy October 1st, hugs Elke
Greetings Elke! I agree, I love pumpkin season too. Happy October 1st to you also :)
DeleteLove October... 🍁🍂🍁
ReplyDelete...rememberings to the childhood with chestnut man crafts for example.
Happy time!
Hi Erica, welcome to my blog, lovely to meet you :) I love October too, lots of lovely memories from way back. Most definitely, a happy time!
DeleteIt's good to get up to date with the injections.
ReplyDeleteLove all those pumpkins, they look good and those flowers, what a beautiful show, Denise.
It is indeed :) It was very nice going to the store and seeing their displays. They always put on a good show each pumpkin season. Thanks Margaret!
DeleteGood to get that shingles shot. We had ours several years ago.
ReplyDeleteYou might check with your doctor about a shingles booster David. Gregg's doctor told him he needed another after he had the first a few years ago.
DeleteHappy October Denise :-D Great photos. Loving all the pumpkins :-D
ReplyDeleteAnd to you too Ananka :) Thank you so much, they are a lovely sight, aren't' they?
DeleteI have never had a flu shot or the shingles shot. Love the mums and the pumpkins
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, I wouldn't go as far as saying you should get them. It's entirely a personal issue but both can be very nasty once contracted. All that being said I wish you the best of good health :)
DeleteI love the funky pumpkins so much!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for vaccinations. I am going to get mine done soon.
They are great, I enjoyed looking at them. Yes, I'm a big believer in vaccinations.
DeleteThose autumnal shots are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am happy you think so Angie, thank you :)
DeleteDenise, I love all those pumpkins! Yes, we have a friend who gets, wait, no, two friends that got very, very bad cases of shingles. The pain. Terrible. Glad he got the shot.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! I'm sorry for your friends, it is a horrible, crippling pain and I didn't realize it was as serious in that it could be long-lasting. I'm glad your friend got the shot.
DeleteI didn't know either until they got it that it could be so bad.
DeleteThank goodness we can get vaccinated for it.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt is a good vaccines to get, Shingles can be very painful.
I love all the mums and the pumpkins.
Take care, have a great day!
Thanks Eileen, it's been good to read everyone's opinion about these things. Glad you liked the mums and the pumpkins. I'll have more mums to share soon. You take care and have a great day also :)
DeleteThose are some funny looking pumpkins! I like them.
ReplyDeleteGood to up on your shots. :)
They are, aren't they? I said to myself I much prefer the orange ones, but then I started looking at the different colors, and think they may be very nice to have a display of different ones. Thank you, much appreciate the pat on the back :)
DeleteOH yes indeed Bryan's uncle had shingles eons ago before there was a vaccine
ReplyDeleteas soon as it was available we had ours. We had our covid and flu on Sept 12
Hugs and yay for being proactive
Cecilia
We are very lucky to have these vaccines now. Applauding you for getting yours too and I'll repeat your sentiment, sending hugs and yay for being proactive xo
DeleteIt certainly is wise to get all of the shots available. I received the shingles shot and then had a mild case of shingles a couple of years later. My nephew had shingles behind his left eye ten years ago, still in terrible pain, he is lucky he did not go blind.
ReplyDeleteThe Mums around here are so colourful this year, just like the ones you have shown.
I agree, glad you got yours and so sorry about your nephew. What an awful thing to have behind the eye and to still be in such pain! Poor man! I thought the mums were more colorful this year :)
DeleteBeautiful flowers and extraordinary pumpkins. We only usually see just the orange ones.
ReplyDeleteAt one time we could only get the orange pumpkins, and then a few years back all these others of different colors and shapes started popping up :) Loving all the different colored mums this year.
DeleteI had shingles in my 40's. It was not fun so I got my shingles shot. At this age we need all the help we can get.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that, and glad you got your shingles vaccination. I agree on your last sentence. We do need all the help we can get :)
DeleteWe need to get our covid and flu shots. We got the shingles vaccination a year or two ago. The photos are lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt's flu season I was told, so I decided to get going on them Sandra. I had a covid vacc in one arm and the flu in the other. Apart from a little tenderness today, I have had no bad side effects. Glad you enjoyed the photos, thank you :)
DeleteMy week is going well, just work and all the life stuff. I really enjoyed reading this. It’s always a bit of a relief to finally check these things off the list, and I’m glad the staff made it such a smooth experience. I also love that you shared a touch of the season with the pumpkins and mums, it makes the post feel so warm and real.
ReplyDeleteHappy about your week going well Melody, that's great. So glad you enjoyed reading this. I agree, I am very relieved to have at least started my shot journey. Thank you so much for your kinds words :)
DeleteI had the shingles shots back in the 20teens. Had a reaction to it too but must be working since I haven't gotten shingles. I remember my Dad having them and it looked awful.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you haven't had shingles after your vaccination Marcia :) Gregg had them too before he had any vaccination. Fortunately, not as severe as some I have been reading about but it was still very painful.
DeleteI am so happy you got the flu and will get the shingles shot. I was happy I got the shingle shots because I got them after the shot and did not even know I had shingles until I showed what I thought was chapped skin and she said shingles, I said NOO and she said your shingle shot is why you don't have pain. one person I know had them in her eye and it was awful... I always get flu shots and have for 30 years but have not had the one I always get in sept
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra :) That was good news about you getting the shot and then shingles afterwards not being so bad. I have heard more about people getting them in the eyes, I just can't imagine the horror of that! I hope you can find the time to get yours. I know your time is not your own right now.
DeleteI'm not sure how I feel about green pumpkins. Orange, of course. The white ones are really pretty, I think. But green ones seem a bit odd to me. But altogether aren't they are pretty lot!!:) Happy October to you!
ReplyDeleteThose green one stake some time getting used to Jennifer :) Happy October to you too!
DeleteI've heard those shingles can get pretty bad. I'm so sorry your son's friend had lasting nerve damage from it. Your photos of the Mums are so pretty with vibrant colors. You know, I love the white pumpkins also, along with the orange, so I did appreciate the photo of the white pumpkins. Those blush ones are delightful, and Jess and Nel love the greyish/green ones.
ReplyDeleteHappy October Denise!
~Sheri
Thank you Sheri, it sounds like a terrible condition. So glad you enjoyed the mums and the pumpkins :) It’s nice to know that Jess and Nel love the others. Happy October to you too dear Sheri.
DeleteDear Denise :)
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are beautiful and what a wonderful display of both the flowers and the pumpkins. I have only ever seen orange or green pumpkins before. It's good to know that you have had your vaccines. I go for mine tomorrow afternoon. One would think I lived on another planet or something, as I have never heard of a shingles vacine.
Al the best,
Sonjia.
Hello dear Sonjia, so glad you enjoyed them and thank you, I am relieved to have gotten my vaccinations taken care of. Good for you getting yours done. I only found out about the shingles shot a few months ago. All the best to you too :)
DeleteLindas calabazas. ten un buen mes de Octubre. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteMuchas gracias. Fueron un espectáculo muy agradable. Feliz octubre para ti también. Te mando un beso :)
DeleteHere in the UK the shingles vaccination is available on the NHS for all adults turning 65, those aged 70 to 79 and those aged 18 and over with a severely weakened immune system.
ReplyDeleteThe photographs you've shared are lovely.
Many good wishes coming across the miles ...happy October.
All the best Jan
That's interesting information Jan, thank you. Thank you for your sweet comment. I send them to you too :) All the best, Denise xo
DeleteI am due for a 2nd shingles shot next month.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for you for keeping up with them Christine :)
DeleteGood you got your shots. I had a couple of patients with shingles. One was so bad, with a couple of other things wrong that he died. I had fellow nurses who had it and were horridly pained by the rash. Remember your RSV and annual flu shot too. Covid is still around, so get the current one of that. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda and how very sad. I am hearing more and more about how important these vaccinations are. Better to be safe than to be sorry. Thank you for the reminder on getting the RSV shot. We will definitely put it on our list.
DeleteDenise, your photos are absolutely gorgeous! Such a beautiful celebration of Autumn...and October! Happy October to you, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you LInda, I appreciate that very much. Happy October to you too my dear :)
DeleteI am not sure when the next round of C and flu shots will be rolled out here, but it should be sooner than later.
ReplyDeleteI also hope it's sooner than later AC. I think we need all the help we can get.
DeleteHappy October, Denise. Every photo here screams fall and they are all beautiful. (I got my flu the other day; Covid next, then shingles. One poke after another!)
ReplyDeleteAnd to you too Jeanie :) So glad you are staying up to speed on your vaccinations. Yes, one poke after another and here's another, maybe you could read Linda's comment about the RSV and ask your doctor about it.
Deletewow, great photos.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that very much Sandy, thank you!
