WHAT DO WE LIVE FOR…

“What do we live for if it’s not to make life
less difficult for each other.”

~George Eliot~

“Mary Ann Evans (November 22nd, 1819 - December  22nd, 1880), alternatively Mary Anne or Marian, known by her pen name George Eliot, was an English novelist, poet, journalist, translator, and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Like Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy, she emerged from provincial England; most of her works are set there.” More can be read if you click on her pseudonym George Eliot underneath the quote.”

  6. What a great quote. Too bad more people didn't live by that. I know far too many people who take great pleasure in making life difficult for other people.

  7. Thank goodness women no longer have to resort to male noms de plume to have their works published.

    1. Always amazed me! Others were, Charlotte Brontë (Currer Bell), Emily Brontë (Ellis Bell), Agnes Mure Mackenzie (Robert Mure), and Mary Jane Ward (Robert Ward). They all adopted these names to have their work taken more seriously in a male-dominated literary world. But as you say, thank goodness women don't have to do that now David.

    1. I'm glad you found it so Janice :) And yes, pays to read these quotes a few times. I keep rereading them myself to make sure I don't make any mistakes, which of course could completely turn the quote in another direction.
