Our first stop as we crossed the border when we drove out of Virginia into North Carolina, was a place that sells Carolina Barbecue, among other things. It's been known to the family since before we were married. We picked up barbecue, buns and fixings to take down to my sister and brother-in-law, which is an hour-and-a-half further south. If ever you find yourself in Moyock, North Carolina, I highly recommend stopping at Southland Restaurant.
I like this place, not only for what they sell, but because of their giving nature initiating this very special program, not forgetting their customers most of all whom donate what they can.
The money is left by those customers and wedged in between each board, from change to paper money. The following photo is one my niece took.
It is collected by the staff and given to Surfing for Autism, which you can read about here. On top of all that, they have an airbnb which you can look at here.
I enjoyed the artwork on the wall. My second photo above, of the building, was part of that, as was this section with the added photos.
And the family had a great time.
That night we dined at The Village Table and Tavern. I remember eating seafood but I don't recall any more about it, just that it was excellent and again, we all had a good time. No photos of the food though. We were all too busy talking I guess. It was a great evening.
That's all for this one. The next day we headed north. My sister-and-brother-in-law went all out to show us a great time. We were very thankful to them for opening up their home, and they stopped everything to show us around.
Thanks for looking and
enjoy your day.

The Surfin' Spoon is an amazing restaraunt!! And you got really good photos.

DeleteSuch a nice restaurant to donate this money customers leave behind to the autism fund. That is a generous and thoughtful thing to do. The name of the restaurant made me smile, as I am from a family of surfers. ; ) The barbecue sounds delicious too.
ReplyDeleteHave a good May week, Denise.

Isn't it though? I thought it was a wonderful way to help the organization. How wonderful that you are from a family of surfers. The owner was too if I remember correctly. We enjoyed the barbecue very much. It's always a stop when we go that way and it has been a while :)
DeleteMe gustaron los cuadros. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteMe alegra mucho que te hayan gustado las pinturas. A mí también. Gracias y te mando un beso :)
DeleteBoth places look like good places to eat. Looks like a fun time. Love your blouse. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, they were two very nice places to visit. I am so glad you like my blouse, thank you very much :)
Deletei really enjoyed this post. the best eateries at the jersey shore are the shacks, where you eat seafood the day it came off the boat!! i have one son who lives in chapel hill, nc and one who lives in austin, texas. the best bbq i have ever eaten was in austin. oh man i LOVED the money wall, what a great idea!! that is an awesome picture of the family!! you look so nice denise and really happy!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, the hole in the wall places that people don't give a second look, are some of the best places to go to, and I always take note of where the locals eat. I have never tried barbecue in Texas before. My husband swears by North Carolina Barbecue, which doesn't have the sweet barbecue sauces added to other areas, like Virginia and elsewhere. Thank you for your sweet comments Debbie, they are very much appreciated.
DeleteLooks like a great time. Lovely photos and smiles 😃 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, it was the best time for them, happy to say :)
DeleteI really like the method of donations, between the slats, which are left by customers at the Surfin' Spoon. A really heartwarming idea. You all seem to be very happy eating at different places on your vacation.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great idea isn't it? It was a lot of fun. Time together with family becomes more precious as time goes on.
DeleteThe donation thingy is very cool. Love the name Surfing Spoon. That's a hoot.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a place I would like to go to again :)
