GOSIA'S FENCES AROUND THE WORLD

From my archives.
We found these pretty horses on one of our trips in the Virginia countryside a few years ago.

FENCES AND HORSES - ANOTHER FROM THE OLD BLOG

Another post from the archives.  This was when we were on a mini road trip not too far from home.  The weekends often finds us exploring. We came across these gorgeous horses a while back. I've decided to take an apple or two along with me next time, or a few cubes of sugar as a friend of mine suggested. We don't have to ride too far before we reach horse country.

Just look at the expression on that horses face. It just says, "I'm disgusted, where is my apple and the least you could have brought us were a few cubes of sugar? Don't come back next time without them!"

OLD FAVORITES - PART 2

“Struggling to stand on wet green land,
Mother nervously at hand
New born foal on spindly legs
Welcomed to the world by chilly winds.
First steps taken tentatively,
Gives his first joyous whinny,
Strengthening legs....he stretches out
Soon...proudly, he struts about.
Of his mother....he takes no heed”
Galloping now with such great speed.”

A FEW MORE PHOTOS TAKEN IN CLIFTON, VA

There is a history of Clifton at this website.

I didn't share the horses we found in my last post.  We saw them when we took a ride off one of the roads from the main street.
Thinking the road was going to loop back around, it came to a dead-end, and was a private road.  We turned back and soon found a parking spot on the side of the road in town.
This is the Quigg House, where we found our happy dog in my last post.

Here's a fuzzy picture I managed to get of our happy dog.  She was doing the wriggly, happy dance.  I barely got her in frame and was happy she didn't totally blur out in this one.  I had several blurs.  Such a sweety!
This house is one of my favorites.
It also has a lovely courtyard.  (Most of these historical houses are private homes.)
This is a very quaint little town with a history. If you live here you are used to people reading those markers and taking photos of your home.  There are a lot more tourists here in the warmer months.  Today it was still very busy with people walking up and down, looking at the shops, going into the restaurants and enjoying these lovely historical homes.  There are also home tours a couple of times in the year.  I went on one years ago.
There are picket fences in front of every home.

I missed the marker on this one.
This is the Clifton Baptist Church, replacing the one room church that was on this site, in 1910.

I found one bit of history online as I missed the marker.  It read: "In 1876 George W. Tillet, along with other area men who served with Mosby's Rangers during the Civil War, formed a Baptist Church with services held in his home.  Subsequently they built a one-room church on this site in 1877, which was replaced by the present church in 1910.
That's it for Clifton for a while.  We will probably go back in the springtime.

MORE PHOTOS FROM FRYING PAN PARK

In my first two photos, and always on the look out for interesting bits of nature, Gregg pointed out the fungi growing on the fence.
Good Morning, I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was busy as we had company.  Strangely I took no photos, didn't even think of it as we had such a good time talking until after midnight.

I fixed one of those cheat meals for dinner but we all enjoyed it. It had been a busy week and I had no time to cook or fix ahead.  We were going to be out all day and this seemed the way to go for dinner that night, to get something on the table fast.  I was serving up half an hour after we arrived home.

For an appetizer I had two types of cheeses with crackers, plus some dates and a few nuts put together on a cheese board.  I know where to get really great chicken noodle soup.  It is the next best thing to homemade.  We have known our friends for many years and they do not expect anything more than good company.  One of them recommended the soup.  I added butter croissant and for dessert individual portions of Tiramisu, the kind that comes in a small glass.  A bottle of wine, great conversation and the evening was perfect.

Not sure what we will be doing during the upcoming week, not sure if I will be taking any photos but in the meantime here are a few more from Frying Pan Park.
A barn housing an old cider press...
Tired piggies!
And more tired piggies in the next stall.  They all have access to the outside.
I shared these goats in my previous post.
I found another goat in the field, too busy eating to pose for a portrait.
Far too busy feeding face for posing.  Note: clucking noises are of no help at such times.
If you saw my last post here, you will recognize this little charmer.
His brother was a hundred feet away having a snooze.
Brother looked like he would be following suit very soon.
There were signs asking us not to feed the horses as they were work horses.
This lovely cow was busy licking its trough, expectantly waiting for lunch.  We saw staff making their rounds feeding all the animals.
One expectant face looking through the fence.  Sorry little guy, no food but I can see it coming.
Thankfully these turkeys don't have to worry about making an appearance at the Thanksgiving table.
I read that for many years those turkeys who had been pardoned at the White House ceremony were sent here.
