NO NEW RECIPE AT THE START OF THIS WEEK, BUT.....

a link to a favorite Thai recipe on my old blog.  It has been a favorite and a go-to dish.  Gregg is now its main chef and it has become his specialty.  When his sister visited a couple of weeks ago he wanted to make it for her.  I had fun watching them in the kitchen.

One of the ingredients we had never used before we discovered that we could make Thai Food at home, is Fish Sauce.  Now we always have a bottle stored in the fridge.  I remember a young man's comment when looking at the many choices, and who guided us to this particular brand.   "This one is very good.  It's what I use."  It was a big bottle and we mentioned we would never ever get through it.  "Don't worry, it will last forever."  We find ourselves replacing it more than we ever thought we would, because of our love of Thai Cuisine, and we always get the three crab brand.

And what did Gregg's sister think of her brother's cooking?  She enjoyed it very much and brother was happy.

Later that evening they sat on the floor and went through a box of old family photos.  I found myself taking this one, a photo of their Mom in the foreground, with them intently looking at the contents in the box, commenting on each snapshot.  It was poignant, especially as their Dad passed away last July.   Each photo brought back loving memories which they talked about.

This is their Mom, a very special lady, beautiful inside and out, a photo we all love.  They both said I could put all these photos on the blog with pleasure, so here they are for you to see.

The following shows her as a little dancer, one I have shared before on my old blog but I think deserves repeating.

This handsome young lad is Gregg.  He said he was about 14.

And another when he was a few years younger.

I know I have said this before but the more time goes by, the more our photos become our priceless treasures.

  1. Gregg was so cute!! I bet all the little girls were after him. I love the picture of his mom dancing! She must have danced quite a lot, because she has a sparkly dancing dress.

  2. Denise, Thanks for sharing the photos of Gregg and his sister, Gigi, both in the kitchen and looking thru family photos. You are so right in that last comment. I still have to sort thru some family photos cleared out from my late mother's home a couple of years ago.

I like that shot of them and their mom... all our photos are in GA with my niece, I would love to sit and go through the hope chest that holds them, the chest was my grandmothers. photos are the pilot light of memory

  12. It's good that they sit down and go through photos. It brings back memories and these days you don't have to make painful decisions and split up photos as you can scan them. There are four in my family so each one didn't get many photos.

Precious old photos. Hope you are putting information on the back of them... She says, as she has loads of old pics, on which she has not done so. -sigh-

    Lovely post...

  17. I am always in awe of how pretty ladies of this generation were - including my own mother - and how stylish their hair was. And in full body photos, they are always so slender and poised. Thank you for sharing your sweetie's mom's photo. I always enjoy your posts. Sandy Ward in NC

  24. Gregg's mother was simply beautiful. I especially like the photo of her as a young dancer. It's been a while since I cooked Thai food. I find it easier to drive to the mall and have my Thai fix there. My top favorite cuisines are Italian and Thai.

  26. Fish sauce is a staple in our fridge too. Sometimes we even chop hot chiles into it and use it as a dipping sauce for spring rolls and the like.
